There's one going in, and one going out of your oil cooler. Did you do either of those with the thermostat?

I like having vicegrip/locking needlenose pliers for all the hose clips if you end up using them instead of stainless clamps.

I have done any of them yet.
Just trying to collect all the parts and hoses/tubes and flanges and little whatnots, so I dont miss anything.

It's all prophylactic so I am not in a huge hurry,

Ok so I am ordering this for the V8 Pathfinder (a 2008)
https://www.wholesalepartsexpress.com/p ... gKFQ_D_BwE

What should I order for my V6 Xterra? (a 2011)
Should be the same as the Pathfinder V6 w/o rear heat yes?

I am toying with the idea of replacing the same piece for the Xterra and perhaps a new radiator (even though original one still works fine) in order to maintain new vehicle -like reliability

If you try that part from Wholesalepartsexpress.com, let me know how that works for you. I ended up buying a brand oem Nissan unit for mine.

For my Xterra, I went with Dorman # 626598 outlet side hose @ $30 from Rockauto and the inlet side hose I got for $42 w/ spring clamps from Z1offroad.com, which has a bleeder:

https://www.z1offroad.com/z1-products/z ... a574a9b1fd

Both are updated designs over the OE parts. If you don't need the bleeder on the inlet hose, you can go with Dorman # 626610 for $12 @ Roackauto.

I had that exact piece fail on mine. I replaced it with the entire assembly hoses and all with the cheapest OEM found on ebay. Holding up great 4 years later. Highly recommended to inspect, mine started as a small leak and should of replaced it once the signs were there.

I inspected on both my 08 Pathfinder and my 11 Xterra.
Both seem in very good shape.
Still I dont like the idea of potentially leaving a weakness that could get me stranded

Keep a couple of small visegrip clamps in your toolkit. There's no reason to ever get stranded by a heater hose unless it fails right at the block. Anyplace upstream, just pinch off the hoses. The truck doesn't need a heater to get you home.

Of course the OEM part is back ordered. I ordered the metal version from Wholsesale Parts, will see what gets here first.

Metal part is halfway in, and I it looks good enough I will stick with it over the Nissan part, which I also have in hand.

But...

The plastic was so brittle, not only did other pieces break off with minimal pressure, but some pieces of the large nipple heading back to the collector and radiator fell down that hose. I was hoping that wasn't the case, but I ran my borescope down it and see at least two large plastic chunks. So a little more removal to fish little pieces out of the system before I button it up.

So lame...

If you end up doing this, make sure gravity helps you with potential plastic chips as much as possible. This thing detonated as I pulled on the hose and who knows how many parts are down there.

A dealership 30 miles away has that next hose in hand so I'm heading up to get it, as the hose clamp is coming apart as it is and I'm not sure it or the hose will survive removal. But if I did this again...I'd disconnect the bottom of that hose (92400-EA200 in drawings) so plastic from the upper end would just fall out.

+1 on that, I usually cut the small hoses at the firewall if the fitting is brittle. They're like a fragmentation bomb when the plastic is far gone.
