Lower front strut bolt

Postby stugry » Mon Sep 05, 2022 8:16 am

Does anyone know the dimensions of the lower front strut bolt? I somehow got it to break free only to get stuck halfway off when the bolt head got rounded. I cant get a bite on it now so I'm thinking of just cutting it off. I'm hoping to be able to source a match at a local hardware store but I cant find any info about the bolt online, other than it's part # 54040A. My problem is with only one vehicle I'll need to source the replacement prior to removing it so I cant just take the cut bolt with me to compare.
Thanks

While I'm unsure of the length I believe the original bolt was a M14x1.5 flanged bolt/nut combo.

I suggest just getting a new one from the local dealership, order one, OR hit the local pick-a-part.

Original bolt is definitely recommended. It is likely a high strength bolt that you would have a hard time getting a replacement for that is appropriate.

No affiliation but i have had good luck here:

Or order online and pickup at local dealership.

BTW, call in or walk in orders to the dealership tend to be much higher in price.

Isn't suspension hardware grade 10.9?

Usually. It depends on the load and the part, 8.8 isn't uncommon in lightly-stressed applications, 12.9 is often found in heavily-stressed applications on large vehicles. But you're right that suspension nuts and bolts are almost exclusively high-tensile, quenched-and-tempered steel. Going with 10.9 should be safe for anything on a Pathy.
