P0161 - O2 bank 2 sensor

Postby jetstream87 » Sat Dec 03, 2022 5:42 pm

I just had the check engine light turn on, ran the OBD2 and threw the P0161 code on my 97 Nissan Pathfinder. Car currently has 205K miles, can someone let me know if the sensor is located on the driver side or the passenger side. Also any diagram of the sensor location + swap walk through instruction will be appreciated. Might do a pair switch off to ensure both are good.

Bank2 is the driver's side. You can always find that info at the bottom of the EM (Engine Mechanical) section of the FSM. In this case see EM-48 here:

Likewise, you can find the location of all engine sensors in the EC (Engine Control) section under "Component Parts Location". See EC-10:

The biggest problem you're likely to have in changing an HO2S on a '97 is corrosion. Soak it thoroughly with WD, be ready to use heat, and be thoroughly prepared in case the threads strip on the way out despite best efforts.
