R51 rim option - Jante Wheels - anyone heard of them

Postby TooMuchControl » Sat Dec 03, 2022 9:47 am

I have tried to find a good set of 18" rims around Ontario. It's near impossible.
I love the charcoal/smoke version of the Pathfinder 18s that were produced for the Frontier Sport Appearance package and they are even more rare - impossible to find in Canada.

So I stumbled across a link from our friends over at the Frontier Org, and someone found a producer of the same charcoal 18s, by a firm called Jante Wheel in Tennessee. They manufacturer exact replicas of OEM wheels.

Seeing this is an American firm, I'm assuming this is an American made wheel.
It should be high quality,
Would this assumption be correct?

Did anyone have any experince with them?
In the USA quality control wheels standards are only half as strict for aftermarket than for OEM.
And they are not enforced.

So after market wheels are always a risk.

Honestly if an aftermarket wheel as is a little over 100 bucks/wheel I cannot imagine it meeting anywhere close OEM specs for roundness and strength.,
That is a new price of less than half of a used OEM wheel.

I realize it is not what you wanted to hear but it is what it is.

What about ebay?
They cant deliver to Canada?

I got my set of used 18 inch OEMs off ebay and am well satisfied ( I also wanted the charcoal look but could not find a full set so I went with the regular look)

Thank you for that.

In fact, there are a set in the NY area. I have to convince myself to drive down and pay for them, it's not a long drive.

I think you may tipped the balance for me in my evaluation of it.

EDITED:
These damn wheels are made in China, and come from overseas.
Now, a lot of wheels come from there, but, I'm not that desperate not to be patient and find a good OEM set.

100$ a wheel? thats a screaming deal... as in either you scream because they brake or because the deal was so good. But thats a gamble for sure.

I was fortunate. I decided to hunt for the genuine OEM.

I dug into Car-Part.com and found a set (missing the 5th, but I will back fill that with an OEM find later) and drove to the States and picked them up.

They came to $604 USD, with taxes, for a set of 4.
I would say the condition of the rims - 97%, front and back.
They a couple of small nicks on one wheel. That's it.

The real win came when I picked them up.
The recycler I dealt with actually found 3 of the 4 hub center caps, and included them with the rims.

40342-9BD0A are something near $35 USD each?

I basically was able to get the OEM rims (c/w caps), for the aftermarket price Jante + OEM caps if I were to purchase the hub caps.

Car-Part.com is such a good resource, I forgot that I used them for other components, I didn't check for wheels.

Palmerwmd, I pm'd you on this. Thank you!
