Loud clunk when shifting automatic

Postby Minuratta » Wed Mar 01, 2023 8:15 am

Hey guys, I was wondering if anyone knows why my car clunks or clanks really harshly when shifting from Park to Drive for example. Replaced U-Joints but no fix.

Is their a way to check if it's that or the CV Joints etc? I spent like $180 last time and a bunch of hours on the U joint replacement. I want to get it right this time

The mounts are easy to check visually. Put the truck in gear and go R -> D -> R -> D, goosing the throttle slightly after shifting. The engine will lift significantly if one of the mounts is bad. Then do the same thing while someone ducks their head to watch the tranny, the tail will lift up if the tranny mount is bad.

Gotcha, I'll give it a go. Appreciate it.
