Are there "Tuners" available to us?

Postby rang-a-stang » Wed Jan 15, 2025 3:00 pm

I plan on some bolt-ons and am hoping to get my Pathy tuned. I have seen gas pedal changers (like pedal commander) but I am looking for something that can get a little deeper. On some of my other vehicles I had a hand held tuner that I could input new fuel, timing, and other changes. Does that exist for us R51 4.0 dudes?

What about dyno tuners? Are there good Nissan dyno tuners around? Any recommendations?

Z1 and UpRev are the only two tuners I can come up with.

not really answering the question, however, from what I've read, the best thing that you can do, to the 4.0, is install the plenum spacer.
It gives the torque increase in the right power band, and it's a bolt on. Z1 sells their own version of it now.

copy that @TooMuchControl. This weekend I did spark plugs and the Z1 plenum spacer. The plugs were not too bad but I figured if I was pulling the plenum to install the spacer, might as well do plugs. Its seems a little peppier in the mid throttle space? Not sure if it was $260-I-paid-for-the-spacer peppier but whatever.

I am heading out on a business trip until mid Feb but when I get back, I plan to install my exhaust and that will probably be about the end of the bolt-ons. I already have a K&N CAI intake, too.

The biggest reason I am asking about a tuner is my shift points kind of suck since I went to 33" tall tires. It shifts into OD way to soon and bogs often. I also would like to tune for the CAI and exhuast once they are on. I road trip often to I am hoping between the exhuast, CAI, spacer, tune up, and a tune will get me back to a stock'ish MPG on he highway with these tires. I am also hoping to swap my diffs to get my gearing down a little too.

I had a Cobb Accessport on my last car and having it to stream data while driving was clutch. I am not expecting a ton of power to be had, just to tweak the tune a little to hopefully make the driving experience a litter better. I did contact Z1 and they said they may have a solution for an on-board tuner and remote tuning but I will cross that bridge when I get there.

I have an UpRev on my V8. I've seen the dyno on the V6 (Xterra) and gives about 20hp and 50tq gain? I suggested UpRev and got reamed out. Everyone seems horny for the VF Tuner tuner. They just released one for the 3.8 and apparently working on one for the 4.0L.

What other mods do you have on the V8?

R8 Ignition coils, GM/LS 90mm throttle body, JBA long tube headers, a Z1/Titan Nismo hybrid CAI and a custom 3" catless catback.

Oooh.... When I go to UPREV Tuner Kit, it allows me to put my info in there and seems to work so maybe there is an option for me there, too. No tuners around my area but an E-Tune may be an option. Hm. Thanks for posting this !

That's how mine was done. UpRev doesn't support out of country tuning, so being in Canada their included tunes didn't count and I had to pay the tuner $200USD directly for the service. An unexpected extra cost, but I was already down that rabbit hole so I had no choice.
