96 remote program won't take

Postby palladin » Tue Nov 25, 2008 8:13 pm

Got a new key fob, here is what I did to program
Locked doors with driver lock button
Insert and pull out 6 times
flashers flash twice, indicating going into program mode
turn ign to acc
hit any switch once on key remote. flashers are supposed to flash but do not

Nissan tested key fob and it is transmitting.
Fob code is KUBOTA3T, just like on old one and confirmed thru Nissan.

What do I do now???

This is the process as I understand it, slightly different than what you described

6 times in, 6 times out rapidly and lights flash
Insert key for a 7th time. Turn ign to ON not just ACC
Press the Lock button, hazards should flash again
Turn car off, remove key and check operation of fob

Since you didn't say I'm going to ask. Did you have any working fobs ever? Did you purchase the vehicle used w/o them and now you're adding your first or do you have an old one(s) that still work?

If you have no working fobs at all it's entirely possible that there is an issue with the receiver in the pathy.

Originally, PF came w/o any so Nissan dealer gave me one. Last years them fell apart or something. Got another one and sent it off to college. It worked until son ran destroyed it and tried to superglue it back together, I don't know the details. So now I got this one since the PF is sitting in the driveway and he's driving the Zcar. Nissan confirms it works good. They said that since I get the flashers after 6 inserts, that shows it is going into program mode. At this point appears to be the bottle neck. The 82 Zcar is easier to work on, phew!

Well, with that bit of info I'd be inclined to believe either the Key Fob is having an issue (even thought it's transmitting maybe there's some other issue with it?) or the Pathy is no longer working correctly on the receiving end even though you get the programming flashes. I take it this is a Factory Nissan fob? If it's an aftermarket I'd suspect the fob even though it's transmitting.

If possible try another remote. Maybe your local parts department will be nice enough to help you out?

Otherwise have a search over at nissanhelp.com . There are Nissan Mechanics over there and will likely respond if you can't find an answer after searching. Make sure you post all the info in your initial posting. It's easier to get someone to coherently respond to an issue with out having to ask "what about a,b,c,d, etc".

Yea, I'd be blaming the receiving components on the pathy side then. You can get a service manual, or at-least the sections you need, over at http://www.nissanhelp.com .
