Not many people look @ these forum, but in case someone does.

I have an 88 nissan pathfinder 3.0 L

was wondering how i can loosen the drive belts as i need to put a new alternator belt on, but i need to take all the other belts off first...

Yeah, not many people with the old Path on here yet. My brother used to have one like yours, a 4 door XE, wonderful truck. My best suggestion for your problem is to dig through the service manual, see if you can divine an answer from in there...

I've found there is usually a bolt on the alternator that you loosen to change belts and adjust tension. Then tend to be hard to get to. I don't think they had a tensioner pulley.

I just went through a service manual for a 94 path and I agree with Boogey. For the KA they def show that you remove one of the mounting bolts from the alt to give yourself slack. But on the VG it doesn't say nor show what to do and there are no tensioners either.

There is a tensioner on the alternator, power steering pump and the AC compressor(if so equipped). Take off your skidplate and have a look at them from underneath. It's easier to access some of the bolts from down under. Others are more easily accessed through the fenderwells. There's no real mystery about any of them if you just get a good look in there.
