Snow???? Ha!!!

Postby schmo9 » Tue Jan 05, 2010 4:39 am

Its been snowing here in Scotland for about the the last 3 weeks, with temperatures reaching as low as -16°C.
Cars are all over the place.
First time Ive had the Pathfinder in these conditions......no problem!!!

Driving has been a dream with no issues with grip or sliding
Been pulling cars out of car parks, up hills etc...
4H on dif lock and you dont even know youre pulling a car, in the snow!!!

What a machine....sooooooo glad I chose it! :D

Same here, almost a meter of snow, and about -21 C today.
Absolutely no problems with the car, a bit harder to start, but that's normal :)

Really really loving it :)

Snow can be fun at those temps. It's when it's 0°C (32°F) and you get sloppy mess wet snow that really makes things miserable. Plus it's a lot of fun to shovel when it weighs a ton. We had about 8" last night and I blew it off the sidewalk with my leaf blower. Only thing good about the cold as far as I'm concerned.

Locks the drive so both sets of wheels are constantly driven. In normal 4wd auto position i believe the power goes to where it is most needed.

Please someone correct me if im wrong :(

There is could be 2 options about differential lock:

If you talking about main differential - yes, in AUTO torque distributed not equally to the axles, but in 4Hi it's equal to rear and front. We have another system, similar but not the same as TOD, Nissan's system more intelligent (IMHO) and torque could be applied in some cases when it 'probably' will be required, when you push accelerator, for example.

If you talking about differential lock in axle - it will 100% apply equal torque and will synchronously rotate both wheels. It's necessary when you going hard offroad or if you know that you need to pass some place where your tires possibly will loose contact with the surface.

Sorry, for offtopic, I promise - tomorrow I will post some Real snow pics, not that good as in Norway but a lot of snow and Pathfinder, of course :-)

I couldn't agree more about the pathy handing the snow well. Here in the mid-Atlantic states, we received about 2' of heavy snow (that is a LOT for us) just before Christmas and I couldn't WAIT to see how the truck performed in the deep stuff. Took the pathfinder out mid-blizzard (probably not the smartest of ideas) before the roads were really touched by local crews to test out the handling. 4L easily dislodged her from the plowed-in parking space, and 4H on the roads with the traction and handling of a sunny, dry day. All this with stock tires that are VERY due for replacement. I was impressed to say the least!

Good to hear! What type of tires are you running? I also was in the way of that mid atlantic 2 feet but was a little hesitant to take the path out to play due to the fact im use to my real wheel drive old camaro haa but next time that won't be the case.

I'm jealous. I'm working in Lincoln, NE this week. We got about 4 inches of snow today. I have a Chevrolet rental that is doing well, but I wish I had my Pathfinder. Mine '05 is back in North Carolina.

What kind of tires are you guys using?

Thanks and have fun in the snow!

Chris

The PF is good in the snow, however the stock BFG's are terrible in the snow or on wet pavement. I switched over to Yokohama Geolandar AT's and the PF drives like a dream rain, snow or shine.
