Intake and Exhaust Modifications

Postby AZ_Path » Thu Jan 28, 2010 11:20 am

In another thread mar1nasr said he's up to 308 hp with the K&N air intake and a buddy is measuring 350 hp at the wheels with the K&N and a Fox exhaust and headers. This is all on the 4.0 V6. I'm not familiar with modding this engine, but these gains sound incredible. If you're getting 350 hp at the wheel, then I believe you're > than 400 at the crank. I'm shocked that you can get +134 hp from these mods.

Does anyone have dyno print outs or other data to show what gains they actually achieve?

mar1nasr, feel free to elborate in this thread as I did not want to hijack the other one. Thanks!

There's no way you're going to get 135 hp out of intake and exhaust. Maybe if you added a supercharger, turbo or Nitrous.

I put the K&N intake kit on mine and got little gain for the "14+ hp gain" claim. I have dragstrip slips before and after that showed a best gain of 2/100 of a second, and .32 mph, in 1/4 mile ET.
I am about to do a custom cat back exhaust, with a Magnaflow muffler. I am curious to see if it combines well with the intake kit to give a more noticeable increase.

I just read the other thread and I agree with myriad46,it's impossible to get that kind of gain with those mods... Unless theres a 200 shot in the trunk somewhere...

There's no way in hell. Let me repeat that, no way in hell. I can't remember what Carl's numbers where when he had the supercharger installed, but I don't believe it was even close to the numbers mentioned here, although I'm probably wrong. Age & memory don't mix well.

They are definitely pulling your leg. You need a big turbo to get that amount of gain. Then you need to reprogram the ecm and a multitude of other things for it all to work.

Did you post this just to get people spun up?

Try 266HP.And how did you come to the conclusion that it added 18HP?

mar..., aren't you overseas somewhere, like UAE or somethng? I'm beginning to think there is a difference in measurement perhaps?

can someone explain to me the difference between net and gross.

i got the dyno sheet in front of me now and it sez:

Coom1986, ur in Abu Dhabi and probly have my same car, right?

Carl posted the dyno from Stillen (their Pathfinder, not Carl's), and these were the numbers:

226 pre-supercharger
317 w/supercharger installed

Okay. It makes sense now. UAE rating is 291 hp stock.

US is 266 hp stock.

Obviously there are significant differences in the rating criteria. I figured it was too good to be true, but I got a little excited for a minute.

Nope im in Dubai,,Arabian automobiles displays the vehicle as 291 Gross, thats the power the engine makes without any accessories swtiched on or connected to it...But 266-270 is the actual power of the engine after everythings finished sucking the power outa it..

But 13 hp from only an intake..not nad, compared to most of the guys, from what ive read here, barely noticed anything after their add on..
