We're currently trawling the UK dealers to see if anyone has a hatch tent in stock. However, it seems to be only rated as water repellent and not waterproof. Can anyone on here shed some light on if the hatch tent is suitable for any sort of wet weather?

I can't attest to the Nissan hatch tent. But I'd bet the Nissan (or any one) is more than capable of keeping you relatively dry. There are 2 things I always do to my tents:
1. Use a water repellent spray available at any camping store.
2. In heavier rain I'll put up a tarp over my tent. Don't lay it over, use the poles to keep it high off/over the tent to allow ventilation and evaporation.

nissan tent:
mild rain = no water got in at all.
mild rain + wind = some drops, barely enough to call it water.
normal rain + wind = barely enough water to get ur socks wet.
compared to other tents, its awesome!
unless u can find one of those cool military tents that are 100% water proof. fooking expensive though.

pathfinder is a very capable stock car. i only have an air intake on mine.
just need some soft tyres like michelin LTX, or cooper HT, and ur set. deflate to 10-12 PSI, and u can cross any type of sand.
only way to learn is to get stuck and get pulled out. worst case u get stuck real real bad, then get that hatch tent out, and wait for recovery
