08 pathy wiper cowl, looking milky..

My plastic wiper cowling has got alot of white milky look to it after 2 yrs, anyone else seen this? with there Pathfinder.

It goes away for a while if I use Armor All or equivilant..,but comes back, I think the sun took its toll on it.

Mothers "Back To Black" works very well on faded black plastics

usual fade. i painted mine flat black, it's holding up well after about 4 months. i will try te mothers when mine fades again.

I also painted mine when I did my grill. The rear plastic bumper on the rear bumber also got a new coat of color during that time.

I would paint the cowling but since I have used Armor All just once..and if I use a solvent to prep, I really do not think the paint would adhere.

"Back to Black" does not do much for me. Its ok for a week or so until it rains. Then its "back to white" again.

I can tell you this Krylon fusion paint will stick to just about anything plastic but you are right once you use anything with a silicone base (armor all) it is very hard to ever get the residue out. I would recommend acetone to prep the surface if it where metal but that wont work on plastic for obvious reasons. I have the same issue as you on my 08 and have not come up with a solution yet other than temp fixes as mentioned in the thread.

I use Black Magic protectant on the cowl and rear bumper step. It's usually the last step of the cleaning process for me.

It must be a Nissan thing because it is a problem on the Titan's as well. People spraying it with bedliner.

Look at black plastic on just about any vehicle a few years old and you will see this problem. Direct sunlight, heat, and black plastic just dont get along.

^^^ un-painted plastic has no UV protection. Some manufacturers imbed UV inhibitors in the plastic, and others coat the plastic with UV inhibitors. No matter what, un-painted plastic will deteriorate on anything wether it be a Nissan or outdoor furniture. So the best solution of course is to paint it.... and Krylon Fusion works wonders on plastic

Gatorbackcoatings is what Chevy Avalanche users use when their body cladding use to be fading. Seems like the best permanent solution out there.
