Removing lift kit

Postby madrock » Wed Nov 03, 2010 1:37 pm

I've decided to remove my mini lift. I don't feel comfortable leaving the pucks on the rear especially since alignment shops can't get it to the proper specs.

I can't afford to prematurely wear out my $900 tires due to the bad alignment.

The issue is with the pucks in the rear.

I'm having the same issues with the rear of mine as well the only difference being I'm running the OME medium rear springs. I'm in the process of ordering the Rancho rear spring spacers and am going to put my stock springs back in.

The OME springs put the rear end +2.5 inches. From the reasearch I've done I think the Rancho spacers are +1.75 inches of lift.

I'm hoping that will put the rear end back in specs.

You may want to see if you have the rear alignment cams like skywhr suggested too.

If you have any Nissan truck built after 2006, it did not come with adjustable lower a-arm pivot bolts. These bolts are often needed to properly align the truck. These come in sets of 4 bolts, 8 washers, and 4 nyloc nuts.

I have a 2005 Pathfinder with a 2.5" lift and had no problem getting the alignment to factory spec. It does have the rear cam bolts though.

Madrock, did you look into the rear alignment eccentric bolts?

Madrock and Pawjr74, I have the OME springs and also trying to get the rear end alignment into spec. The toe is what wears the tires out fast and causes more handling problems. I don't think my local dealer knows what they are doing. They set my camber into spec but it put my toe more out of spec. I'm wondering if it is possible to bring the toe into spec while sacraficing the camber. I'm going to try bringing it to a different alignment shop. What have your experiences been when you got your truck aligned?

I did just what you said...I had the toe set and the rear camber is off on each side. I'll let you know what happens when I go back to stock springs with spacers vs the OME springs.

Same here... toe is fine, camber is positive. May consider the stock spring/spacer combo depending on how it works out for Pawjr.

Thanks guys! I feel much better knowing the toe can be set up right. That's what I will do too. How much positive camber do you guys have? I'll report back after I get it re-aligned.

Just got back from the alignment shop and very pleased with the results. Toe was set to spec and the camber is very close to spec. Camber is 1.0 degree on one side and 0.8 on the other. Spec was -0.5 to 0.5 so I'm only half a degree off... Totally acceptable for me. Also, when I'm towing and have weight in the back... The camber will be in spec.

Pawjr74, are you still going to get the Rancho spacers?
