2008+ tranny cooler bypass

Postby Rheller » Sat Oct 16, 2010 6:54 pm

I did the bypass today on our 2008 with 51k miles. As many know, it is a bit different on these. 2ft of 5/16 Transmission cooler hose, 2 5/16 vacuum caps and 4 clamps will get the job done. There is a barbed connection already in place between the radiator and cooler on the left side of the radiator. Fairly easy job that can save thousands.

I did the bypass a while ago on my '08. I haven't heard of a problem with any '08 PF, Xterra, or Frontier, but I'm not gambling with such an expensive transmission. I added a cooler while I was at it.

I rear ended a Jeep at 50,000miles so I figure I got about another 50k to go on the new rad

Tran Cooler Hose

Postby shv2sail » Fri Dec 24, 2010 10:34 am

I'm having a heck of a time finding 5/16 trans oil hose in any of the local auto parts stores. Does anyone know if a SAE30R6KX hose will work (as this is all I've been able to find so far??

I'm just about to turn 80k miles on my 08 and can't afford a new tranny so I'm going to try the bypass...

THANKS!

We sell 5/16" trans cooler hose at Advance Auto Parts. It's not kept on the sales floor. You will have to see a counter person and they will cut by the foot for you.

I'm going to do the radiator bypass this spring when the weather gets above freezing.

Hmm...both Advance, PepBoys, Autozone in this area of Maryland had nothing in terms of tranny hoses (per their sales folks)...but I was successful at the local NAPA store.

Now I just need the outside temp to get out of the teens so I can do the change! I'm now about 20 miles from my 80k "extended" warranty being up :(
