speedo correction

Postby freak2180 » Sun Dec 26, 2010 4:14 pm

How would I correct the speedo when going to a larger tire?
Im cosidering Nitto Tera Grapler's in a 285-75/16<------1st off will these fit on stock wheels? Im also looking at the 5in suspension lift from Calmini.

I use this calculator when looking at tire sizes http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html and it say my speedo will be off by almost 5mph

Some of the programmer available have a speedo calibration option.

Also keep in mind that unless you have the OR model with larger tires from the factory, the stock size tires put the speedo about 2 mph too fast. Keep that in mind.

Just do the math yourself, its not that hard:

(((285mm x 75%) x 2)/25.4)+16 = 32.83"

vs Factory spec:

(((265mm x 75%) x 2)/25.4)+16 = 31.65"

So the difference in height is 1.18" or 3.7%. That would be 2.4 MPH at 65.

Also note that you'll see decreased fuel economy due to the larger tire and increased rotational mass...

Well after the wife saw the cost of what I "wanted".....it was a no go. So now Im going to settle for 2" of lift and a new set of wheels and tires. Im guessing the best route is the Rancho quick lifts for the front and the OME 1" mediums in the rear. What size wheel (16,17,18) & backspacing would yall recomend for a agressive look........I think I will stick with the Nitto Terra Grapler tires as I have had awsome luck with them.
