Buying Pathfinder 06/08

Postby smarty » Mon Jan 17, 2011 3:00 am

Hello All

I'm new here and I come from Slovenia.
First of all I hope that is nothing wrong because I opened new Topic.
If is not ok please delete it and tell me where to write this. I wrote here because in Slovenia we don't have any huge forum for this vehicle.

Now I have Honda Civic 2.2 I-CTDI 2007 year.
We will get another baby soon soo I'm searching for new vehicle which has offroad efficiency and a lot of space. Also I'm tired of low seat cars and I want to go offroad sometimes.

Soo first of all I drove Land Cruiser 06, Pajero 07 and Pathfinder 08.
All three vehicles are very very nice and I was impressed how much can go to offroad :)

First of all I canceled Land Cruiser because it is too expensive here soo Pajero and Pathfinder left. Here is also problem because we cannot get Pajaro without leather and without automatic gearbox. I'm searching Pajero at least 1 year and nothing here. Also Pajero is expensive then Pathfinder. Yesterday I drove Pathfinder and I realized that I love it too :)

Now I'm searching Pathfinder here also because service interval is every 30.000km and Pajero 15.000 or 20.000km (new model).

Because you are experts here I really hope that you will tell me something about Pathfinder year 2006, 2007 or maybe if I will get enough money 2008. It is the same if I but 2006 or 2008 year model or are some changes from 2006 to 2008 model?

Are some special things of models 2006 - 2008? Some problems with engine, chassis, springs, transmission? Are they also good as Pajero offroad?

One thing are scary me because of DCI engine... I read here that they had problem with chain in engine because it breake?

Also one thing I don't understand.

Car boot:

Pajero: 663l / 1789l
Pathfinder: 515l / 2091l

Pajero has larger car boot then Pathfinder with all two rows of seats?
Pathfinder has larger car boot then Pajero with one row of seat?

Maybe Pathfinder has wider, lengther but lower car boot?
Here is maybe optical that it look larger?

Here it is, Car boot:

Pathfinder

Pajero:

Soo I want to get as much as possible larger car boot but dunno which on is really bigger.

And what is with diferencial?
Pajero has rear and middle 100% lock dif.
Pathfinder has only middle 100% lock dif?

That's it!

Thank you for help!
Best regards,
Martin

first of all, welcome to the forums!

ive had firsthand experience with all three vehicles.

for the LC, i found it very rugged, and can take one hell of a beating. plus its got a little more push than the pathfinder, specially when loaded.
downside is the value for price, as well as repair costs for LC is higher.

pajero 4.5 is great for city driving.
offroading both 4.5 and 4.8 are crap. 4.8 is capable, but heavy heavy gas guzzler.
also cheap quality and breaks easy, specially if ur the type that pushes their car to its limits.

pathfinder is an excellent compromise for power and sturdiness.
its not as rugged as the LC, but can still get raped and live to tell the story. been offroading for 3 years now with minor problems.
go for 2008+ to avoid the tranny issues, plus you get the new interior layout.
pathfinder definitely has more boot space, and the 3rd row seats are as useless as a T-Rex's arms. keep em folded down.

pajero difflock and central lock are useless, been stuck and remained stuck with them on/off.
pathfinder Lo gear with no difflock more capable than pajero.

also one other valid point for NOT getting a Pajero; in spanish has a non-family-site-friendly meaning

Very thank you for answers!

What is exactly tranny issues?

Soo model 2008 to 2011 model?
Model 2008 is then OK and 2007 is not?
Because on the photo I don't see difference in year 2007 and 2008, where can I see this?

I see here facelift 2008 and 2010?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan_Pathfinder

And here under Vehicle recalls:

Is this what you said?

yeah there is a minor issue with the 2007- models with the tranny fluid mixing with the radiatior fluid. can be easily fixed, but 2008+ advantages are the facelift and the reddesigned interior.

Soo it's not soo seriuous to fix it or it might never happen?
At what km should this happen on models 2006, 2007?
If I buy Pathfinder with around 100.000 km this issue will be fixed?
I just asking if I might also buy 2007 or 2006 year model?

Becuase Interior is also cool in 2007 models for me.

if it DOES happen ur tranny is screwd.

but its an easy fix to prevent it from happening.

Soo just this issue is present on model 2006 and 2007, other thing is only facelift and interior change, because if I still buy 2007 model (it is cheaper)?

This issue is fixed from side of Nissan factory of you should fix it by yourself on models 2007?

Is car boot larger in model 2008 or it is the same?
Is something new in machine in 2008 year?

Is this issue only on automatic transsmision of manual or both?

Also picture which you sent for 2008 model we have those interior also in models 2006/2007... :?

Smarty, are you buying the diesel or Petrol?? If diesel then Manual or Automatic?? Cos the Petrol only comes in Automatic.

If your buying the diesel manual then you wont have to worry about any tranny failure. But as far as the engine goes, there are a couple of guys here have the diesel option so hopefully they'll chime in. But what i have read over at the australian forums is that the clutch can wear off by around 100,000kms or so.

And as far as interior boot space go,,i dont think theres a difference between the 07 and 08 model years. Although i think,,correct me if im wrong guys i might just be seeing things, but the rear seats for 08+ have been changed and they've also re-designed so theres a little more foot space under the front seats for the rear seat occupants.

I'm buying 2006/2007 Pathfinder 2.5 dCi SE 172HP manual gearbox.
Soo I'm just worry if is soemthing wrong with machine, gearbox etc or it is better to buy model 2008? Do 2008 have more space?
That's it :)

And also... do 2006+ Paths have LSD?
And I think that for Slovenia there is no difference for Pathfinder 2006,2007,2008,2009 models. I read that new is only at model 2010 which we got 2.5 dCi with 190HP.

Thank you
