Pressure sensor/sender would be my next thing to check. If you have a ohm meter you should be able to check what it is sending to the gauge. At that point you can rule out the gauge or the sender and replace the guilty party.

I checked mine this morning and it never went above about the half-way mark during cold-start or accelerating away. I'm running an M1 filter. That looks like classic sensor problem since it's pegged.

I have this problem and it started like yours, with an erratic oil preasure on the gauge; it finally gave away and has been pegged at MAX for the last 15,000 miles. I do not believe it's the filter as I have used OEM and non OEM. I've not gotten around to trobleshooting it and I am leaning towards the oil preasure sending sensor to have failed. The SM has a guide to check for this. Does your oil light on the dash come on when you open the key? The other possible problem and probably the most expensive to fix will be the combination meter as stated in the SM.

Replacing the switch is very easy. Unfortunately it is a bit expensive. List price from the dealer is about $78.00. I couldnt find an aftermarket one when I replaced mine, a few months ago.

Took it to the dealer today. I have an extended warranty with a $50 deductible. It was the oil pressure switch that was bad. Nissan also found a broken motor mount so I got it all fixed for the $50. Can't argue with that. I wish I hadn't changed the filter now but it seems the dealer always tries to blame your issue on something else. (like the after market oil filter)

Thats good it only cost you $50. Did you have any idea about the broken motor mount? Any signs that it was gone?

Didn't have a clue. I've never noticed any strange vibrations or rough feeling idle. I do have a clunk noise going over large bumps but I've had that since the truck was new.

Any ideas on where the switch is located? Having the same problem and would like to test/replace it myself.

Did you drain the oil first? Did you use a sealer like RTV?

You do not need to drain the oil. Disconnect the sensor and remove the sensor. Remove old liquid gasket adhering to oil preasure sensor and engine; apply liquid gasket and tighten to 11 foot pounds. Use genuine RTV Silicone sealant or equivalent (Permatex ultra grey 82194 or Nissan RTV999MP-A7007)
After warming the engine check for leaks. :D

Forgive me for reviving a dead thread here.....

So this happened to me this morning. She was fine this morning for a while while driving around, then all of a sudden I noticed the oil pressure was at the top of the normal range while I was on the gas. At idle it went back down to half way. Usually at the bottom of normal range at idle and goes up to middle when on the gas.

So it seems the consensus is that the OIL PRESSURE SENDER is bad, and I'd probably like to replace it myself. My question is, will I damage my engine if I drive normally until I have the opportunity to change it? I've read post on other forums where guys drove around for a while with no problems before they address the issue. One guy said he put 15k on the clock with his truck like this.
