Brakes, Rotors

Postby studharper » Wed Oct 27, 2010 8:18 am

I have a 07 Pathfinder SE. Need to replace the rotors. Figured I'd do the brakes also since I'm going to have it apart.

Any ideas would be appreciated on what type/make of rotors to get. Same w/brake pads. From what I"m reading, drilled rotors are the way to go and it's really a toss-up on the brake shoes.

Also, where are you guys getting your brakes/rotors? Who has the best prices, etc.

-Thanks

I'd probably go with Brembo slotted/grooved surface. Haven't replaced my rotors yet but replaced the fronts with Raybestos ceramic pads.

Vented/drilled... I would avoid based on cracking from hole to hole.

Best prices, all depends which shops are available in your neighbourhood. Gonna have to call around for estimates.

You could try ebay, but you don't know what you're getting... real or knock off.

They're not drilled or slotted. I didn't think it was necessary.

Tez,
I ended up ordering the exact same thing from the same place on-line last night. Atleast it sounds like I made the right move. Thanks

I have a 2007 PF SE. At what mileage are you having to do the rotors?

I changed out everything at 49,000. I had some seriously warped rotors.

I just replaced pads and rotors on my fathers 06. We used Hawk LTS pads all around, and Power Slot rotors up front, stock in the rear. In my opinion this setup is much better than stock. Also, from what I've read, I would stay away from drilled rotors for street use. The main advantage of this design is that they cool more quickly therefore reducing fade when making ALOT of hard stops from speed, like at a track. They don't really reduce stoping distance more than a slotted rotor until you have really abused the brake system. SO for the price you pay, just stick with smooth or slots, and spend your money on better pads. Got a great deal from buybrakes.com

Getting ready to do some new rotors and pads up front. I think I'm going to try the NAPA ultra premium rotors...(NAPA ULTRA PREMIUM BRAKE ROTORS - part # UP 880370)

with Autozone Duralast Gold Cmax Brake Pads.

I hear good things about both products. I wasn't impressed with the rotors at Autozone and the similar pads at NAPA are twice as much.

Just put those pads on myself last week. I used the rotors too. No probs so far and a VERY easy job to do

So you went with the Autozone pads and Rotors?

I Liked the way the high end NAPA rotors were painted so they shouldn't rust. NAPA claims they are made in Canada and not China.

I installed the new rotors and the Autozone Duralast Gold Cmax Brake Pads this weekend.

It seems as though they have less braking power than the old brakes. Maybe they have to break in a little since both the rotors and the pads are new.

Anybody else experience a "break in" period after replacing rotors and pads?

I usually use only OEM pads but had to try these new pads that Autozone claims are top of the line for noise levels and stopping.
