think i fooked my engine

Postby mar1 » Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:37 am

went offroading last weekend, hit a few bumpy spots on the tracks, and parked the car almost a mile ahead.
turned car off, wouldnt turn back on and no power at all. popped the hood to find a disconnected battery terminal and the air filter cone disconnected from the hose.

put eveything in place and it turns on normal, but i may have driven a mile with no air filter through some heavy sands.
now i can almost swear i can hear weird sounds from my engine, but it may be my paranoia.

whats the worst that couldave happened? and is there anything i can do to make sure no sand filled in? flushing? .... ?

I'd do an immediate oil change and then probably another in 500 miles. You might want to test the oil after a couple changes and see if there's any abnormal wear going on. Not much else to do besides wait and see.

the smoke and crap was prob the result of the misfire from the intake being off. Don't sweat it. you're fine. It may not have been a health benefit, but unless you sucked in lots and the silica made it into the combustion chamber, you'll be fine. That sound is just your t-chain and trans cooler....;)
