Oxygen Sensor Questions

Postby CPLTECH » Thu Mar 31, 2011 10:24 am

Questions I can not find an answer for with the SEARCH function:
1-Does towing affect life of the sensors?
2-At what age do the sensors start to get “lazy” reaction times in the PF?
3-Do we replace with OEM only or is there another preferred aftermarket brand that performs better?

I now have 75K miles. Has the time arrived?
Thanks in advance,

All good questions. I'll try answering them from my point of view.

1. Towing should not have an affect on the life of your O2 sensors. Maintaining your pathfinder will help prevent any kind of problems.

2. Do you have an owners manual? If so, inside the owners manual should be a recommendation for the proper interval on changing fluids/sparkplugs/air filter/etc.

3. OEM are usually the best. You get the right part more than with aftermarket. However you can find good parts at autopart stores as well. I used to work at one, and have lots of parts from them and they have worked just fine.

towing does not affect the sensor. bad gas kills o2 sensors. the oem ones last longer.

dont fall for the 02 "maintenance"...
they god bad when they go bad. You really only have 2, the fronts are a/f sensors.

If you go aftermarket, you can go aftermarket from the same manufacturer (NTK/NGK) or better yet, go factory.

Since R51's came out in 05, I don't think i've replaced one yet....
