I love my 2005 pathfinder, but I don't think I'd ever buy a used one knowing how many problems the 05 - 07 Pathfinders have. Some things to be leery of:

1) Radiator issues (radiator fluid leaking into the transmission lines via the cooler at the bottom)

2) Auto-tensioner (squeals on cold start-up) issues.

3) Timing chain guide replacement (will here a constant metal on metal sound, some say it sounds like the engine is supercharged).

4) Possibly no cam bolts in your control arms that will make alignments difficult to perform if you decide to alter your suspension. If there are no cam bolts currently, there's a good change that the existing bolts are seized to the bushings in the control arms.

5) Corroded rear AC lines under the body.

6) If the pathfinder has the stock suspension and you load up the rear, you'll likely "bottom out" and hear a big clunk as you go over bumps.

am i missing anything guys...???

That Pathfinder has been involved in an accident....just in case you did not check out the carfax. I bought a 2005 LE with 96K on it for $12,500....I am in the car business and bought it private party....the original owner had just down the bypass and trans rebuild.

I would just recommend buying one with under 80K on it so at least you can have it covered by Nissan in case your radiator is bad and has impacted the transmission.

I will only buy ones under 80K miles for my used car dealership......

I just bought a 2006 with 70,000 miles on it. I paid 14,900. It's pretty much loaded. I did the bypass just to be safe. No problems here. I love it. One thing I can say is that I've never had a vehicle with so much body roll. The roll is so bad sometime I get a little nervous. Like to put some air shocks on it.

Is this a Nissan dealer? If so, ask for a record of all work (warranty repair) done.

You could get the VIN and call the Nissan 1800#, they may or may not tell you what's been done.

One more thing, if you have 3 kids this vehicle sucks.

Not that I don't have any kids, but I'm just curious how you arrived at this statement.

thats harsh, you should love him the same as the first 2. :P

on a serious note, yes the third seats are cramped, but spacey enough for kids. adults wouldnt have fun the back though.

Any particular reason you want to go Pathfinder? It's not that it's a bad vehicle. It's great for some things. That's just a bit much to pay for issues that'll eventually come your way no too far in the future(most likely)

All vehicles have their issues. You can only just try & find the one that has 'em later in their lifetime (& hoping it has been properly maintained)

I have a 06 SE that i bought last year around May for 18k. It had about 40k on it, now has 70k.

Cons-
The only issues i have had with mine is -
1. Gas gauge, which is a common problem. When full it shows i have a full tank, but the E light is on. After about 30 miles the light goes off. Then at about a half tank the needle will drop to E and the light will come on. Fuel sending unit i guess needs replaced, i just watch my OD and fill up every 200 miles cause i dont feel like dropping the tank.

2. AC variable blower control on auto air -also seems to be a common issue, easy fix.

3. Gas hog. I do a mix of half highway and half city and am only averaging about 16mpg. All highway it will get up in the 20's.

Pros-
1. I think its pretty roomy, i have 2 kids. No one really sits in the 3rd row, but when we took it to Miami, Florida from Kansas City, Mo there were 3 adults and 2 children, it was roomy enough for all of us +luggage. PITA getting in and out of the 3rd row though.

2. Has good towing power. I pulled a U-haul trailer with a 75 VW bug loaded (about 4klbs total) and had no problems with stock suspension. You could feel the weight, but i didnt bottom out or have any issues.

3. Looks cool.
