always had 1500 on strt and kicking down to 1000 religiously for 20 plus yrs... now with my 86.5 SE with VG3.0 5 speed/6cyl it dropped to 500 wet weather 750 dry sunny oil/fuel/air good plugs .45 gapped and clean recently changed the ignition coil very weak start minimal crack to frame on the spark constant carbonizing on plugs and starting in the wet damp weather in the AM forgetttaboutit with a fuel burp up into the air cleaner... and air snorkle....starts up mint rain or shine...is something still carbonized covered killing my missing 500rpms.....thanks for feed back...

Hmmm, brilliant details you've given here.. but unfortunately I don't know that engine well enough to even guess on this one, so I'll leave it to someone else who might know.

Might be the idle air control valve, which is located under the intake manifold near the firewall. I'm having the same problem with mine. I've read that they can be cleaned, but I have yet to find a way to get it out, short of removing the entire manifold/throttle body assembly.
