Gass mileage for 05 Pathfinder 2wd LE

Postby ramseyspath » Mon Jun 20, 2011 8:56 am

what are some of you seeing as far as gas mileage? my wife and i recently purcahsed a used 05 but this thing seems to get worse gas mileage than my 01 F150 with lift and 35's! i can get over 300 miles on a tank and her Path is barely getting 280 on a tank! doesnt make sense to me!

You know there's a difference in tank size right? PF has 21 gallon tank...F-150 likely has at least 25.

Around town you won't see a huge difference in mpg unless you're comparing a small car to a truck.

Are you driving it like you stole it? My tank usually reads empty around 19 gallons. Assuming you're the same that means 280 miles / 19 gallons = 14.7 MPG. That sounds quite low. I'm getting over 19 MPG driving mostly city. I am doing my best to max out the mileage without driving like grandma. The Path has good acceleration, but if you have a heavy foot off the line your mileage will show it.

I live in Northern VA and commute to SW DC daily. Immediately after acquiring the Pathfinder I averaged 13-14.5 mpg. After the novelty of having the lead foot wore off, I am now averaging 15.4 to 15.6. I use regular unleaded and the traffic is horrible, so I think the latter is pretty good. If your mileage is far outside those ranges, and you are not driving in traffic that rivals the second worst in the nation. And, you are keeping the heavy foot away from the pedal then you could have a mechanical issue i.e. filters and/or valves that impact fuel economy...

I'm getting 16 mpg. I knew the Pathfinder was a gas hog before I bought it.

my 11' pathfinder "s" 2wd is getting 19 city and 23.5 highway.

Have you ran any injector cleaner through it? might be worth a try, sea foam works great.

I haven't re-set my trip computer in about a month and it bounces between 18.3 and 18.5. That includes some trailer towing, highway, and my normal commute. Seems pretty good to me and I'm rolling a 4x4 with a heavy foot. My Tundra averaged 15 if I was lucky.

added Sea Foam last week and this wknd we went to Atlanta for Braves game and we got anywhere from 18-23 mpg! guess the Sea Foam does work and some other miracle happened!

or maybe its whatever now is causing the Check Engine Light! great just another thing to figure out! on the way to ATL the Path just lost all pwr on interstate and died ..... waited a few minutes cranked right up but Service Engine Soon has been on ever since!

I'm on my 2nd pathfinder, the 1st was an 05 se 2wd and this one is an '11 se 2wd.

The 05 got minimum of 18.5 mpg with 85/15 % hwy/city and was usually in the 19.5 mpg range with this mix. The best i got was 22.5 mpg all hwy.

The '11 is getting about .5 mpg better than this avg. mostly due (I think) to this new model transmission shifting up a bit sooner keeping the rev's lower.

This avg is on 87 octane. I got better using 93 octane.

I also had an increase when i switched to synthetic oil 5/30.

I drive about 36K annually and check fuel mileage on every tank by doing the math and not using my truck's computer.

I've found that speeds over 70mph tend to erode the mileage exponentially (along with stiff headwinds).

Sounds like the IPDM may be going bad. Nissan has a recall for a new relay. Check and see if you're VIN # is affected. Mine stalled out when it failed.

Here is the info from Nissan...

well just picked pathfinder up for ECM relay recall, but i'm still having the noise (no pwr and clicking noise) issue and dealership calls and says cat bank 1 (clogged) and cat bank 2 (breaking down) and timing chain noise (timing chains, cam seals, guide) needs to be replaced ..... total would be $4200!!!!!!!!!! i said hell no .... i'll come get the truck!

any ideas guys??????? a friend of mine is a svc guy at Chevrolet dealership and he says it sounds like from what im saying it could very well be cats! i just dont want to get into all the nickel and diming trying to nail down the prob!
