not particularly common, but disastrous when it happens..........
i bypassed both of mine to prevent it from happening
though the warranty extension will cover failure during the coverage period, i don't want to take the chance of having my trucks in their shop
something always seems to go awry at dealerships - i don't trust them

JN1,3,6,8 means japan
1N4,6 means USA
3N1 means Mexico
Nissan builds the PFs only in Smyrna, TN and in Spain.
Mine starts out 5N1

06 Path radiator bypass

Postby incognito1978 » Thu Jul 14, 2011 7:37 pm

Just a question has anyone had any residual effects on the tranny after bypass? I just bypassed mine tonight (06 Path 84k) and was curious because i have an appointment with AAMCO to have an external cooler added. I think I am gonna have them due the radiator flush as it needs it. Little dirty, no strawberry milkshake appearance. So glad this forum is here.....

Shame on Nissan!! I paid lots of money for flushes, oil changes, at the Nissan Dealership. As soon as my warranty expired 80,960 miles, I was told I have a crack in the radiator that it is leaking into the transmission. It is the very early stages. Since Nissan is FULLY AWARE of this problem I called consumer affairs and explained that even though they extended the warranty to 80,000 miles that maybe they will make an exception, considering my situation. They handed over my case to a Regional Specialist. After waiting over 2 weeks, My specialist never called me or the dealership with an answer. I called the Consumer Affairs OFTEN and said I have to wait. On 7/21/2011 I was told by a consumer Affair rep that she did call me and told me that they will not cover me. I NEVER spoke to Layla, the specialist, and am awaiting for her call because I cannot believe she lied and said she spoke with me. The Consumer affair rep said they tape each conversation. I keep calling and requesting that the Regional specialist to call me because I would love to hear this conversation that never happened. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL!!!!! Thousands of people have stated that their radiator cracked and I just found out that they don't even place this radiator in new vehicles. This is Nissans fault not mine. GM had this problem years ago and my father, a mechanic, said that he had to fix at least 500 cars with the same radiator problem. Many customers complained. I want people to just Google it and see how many people are truly disgusted with Niassan about this issue. I am truly unsatisfied!!!!!!!!!

2005 pathfinder radiator leakage

Postby dolly368 » Thu Jul 21, 2011 5:39 pm

There are at least three action lawsuits pending that I know of. Every single complaint is the same"Radiator cracks causing leakage in the transmission" That is why Nissan sent me the notice that my warranty would be extended for the radiator. They know they built a faulty radiator. When I took the pathfinder in at 77,000 miles, I made sure the dealership checked EVERYTHING! What a coincidence! Only 3,600 miles later my radiator cracks and the warranty expired at 80,000 miles. They could have just extended my warranty and I would be telling people what a great company Nissan is.Very sad. I have two sets of twins and my older set is 17. If this matter is not straightened out I am never buying a car from a company that puts faulty parts in a vehicle and then does not justify it with a recall!!!!

Well did you do research on what you were getting into before you bought the car? I know that it shouldn't matter but if you had done your research before or during the ownership of your vehicle you would have found many ways of detecting and/or preventing this problem.

1) how pro-active were you in preventing this problem?
2) did you turn down an extended warranty when you bought the truck?
3) did you change the coolant every 30,000 miles?
4)did you educate yourself about the truck as so many of us have, and either replace the radiator, or by-pass the internal cooler to avoid the problem?
5)you say you made sure the dealership "checked EVERYTHING". how is that possible? everything? did you pay for a pressure test of the radiator and chemical analysis of all of the fluids? a visual inspection of all internal components? everything? is that what they agreed to do? and even if they did, there's no way to predict if a component will fail if is functioning properly at the time. if your radiator was inspected and passed inspection, would you have had it replaced if it were recommended to do so on the basis of a potential future failure?
6)what do your two sets of twins have to do with anything?

i agree with you, but in all fairness Nissan cant expect a usual consumer to be that proactive and sign up on forums to fix problems they might have had.

Pandaturbo, we're only hearing your side of the story, and i'm not saying ur mistaken, but maybe theres something you may have overlooked.
try taking it to a different dealer and got second opinions. have you had the bypass done?

I have been reading this post for an hour now..I have a 06' Pathfinder and I am worried that coolant will leak into the internal trans cooler and jack my transmission.

Not being a mechanic...here is where I am at...there is an internal trans cooler and an external cooler correct?

does the external trans cooler have seperate lines to the transmission? different from the ones from the internal cooler? If you close off the loop from the internal cooler, splice those two lines together, cap off the rad, is the external cooler affected in anyway?

last question....if you do this, you are basically not letting the rad internal cooler cool off the trans fluid correct?
