diff oils

Postby asgard » Sat May 22, 2010 2:17 pm

Having read through many pages of advice and opinion, I was wondering if you could use the same 75-90w synthetic oil in both front and rear diffs.

On the transmission the drain and fill method suit me best should I l go for S matic - an I correct in thinking this will be ok - with the rest of the fluid being J matic -- or should I look for old stock J matic .

I am still unclear on the transfer case oil - help would be appreciated.

YES YOU CAN USE THE 75W-90 WT OIL in front and rear diffs, rear is synthetic so using that in front would be a plus, the auto trans needs the J-matic NO EXCEPTIONS.. Dealer sells it, as for the transfer case you can use the J matic, but I believe Mopar, Valvoline plus 4 would be fine because it is synthetic automatic trans fluid. The rear axle takes 1 1/2 qts, front diff uses almost 1 qt.

Matic-S has replaced Matic-J for the transmission

Thanks for the info. the front is ok with synthetic - good to know. the mixing of J matic and S matic is also a non issue. I will look into the synthetic transmission fluid for the transfer case.

Being in Canada I wonder about the temp affecting the fluid and adding unnecessary drag and increasing winter fuel economy.

Hello

I will change all oils in my Pathfinder 2007 2.5 DCi 126kW without DPF and manual transmission.

I mean oils for transmission (gearbox), differentials, reductor (I mean it is called Transfer case in your language) and motor oil.

Soo I'm a little confused about this.

- How many differentials do Pathfinder has?
I know that you have 2WD, AUTO, 4H, 4LO

- 2WD is only on two rear wheels
- Auto is all four wheels which have control to more stick on the ground
- 4H is all four wheels and center differential lock
- 4LO is all four wheels witch center differential lock + reductor (transfer case) ?

Is maybe here in 4LO also some LSD or some rear lock differential?

Is this OK? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I'm asking this because I don't know about oils and diffs and reductor (transfer case).

Smart if I'm getting this correctly, your vehicle has for wheel drive. If touts the case you have to change your front and rear diff fluids.if you only have rear wheel drive then just the rear. Just because you don't use the 4h or 4l does not mean you don't have to change it

Pathfinder has only rear drive and then auto mode with 4x4, center differential lock + reductor (transfer case)

I'm wondering how to change oil. I mean do I have front, middle and rear differential to change + transmission?

Do Pathfinder have LSD or some traction control in rear wheels or front?
Like Pajero which have 100% lock rear differential?

Also this:
Front dif. - 80W-90
Rear dif. - 75W-90
Transfer case - ATX14B or ATF or Dexron III
Transmission - 75W-90

Can I use also for front dif. 75W-90?

Also I don't know what type of oil is for Transfer case... what mean those ATX, ATF etc.
