Want Meatier tires

Postby path26 » Thu Nov 03, 2011 11:53 am

I have an 09 4.0 SE with the stock 17in wheels on it that I plan to keep since I painted them black last winter and love the look. The stock General Grabbers handle fine for my mostly on-road use but the certainly dont have enough curb protection nor much visual impact. In last years blizzard I did find myself looking for a bit more bite as well.

Has anyone had experience increasing to a slightly larger size? If so, any rubbing or problems?

Also, I am reading a lot of good stuff about the Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armors. Any thoughts on these and gas mileage info?

thanks

I moved up to one size bigger than stock 265/70/17 General Grabbers AT2 and they perform great and look great and have had no rub issues. However, my gas mileage did take a significant dip, that is the only downside.

Another fan of the Duratracs. I've had them on 2 weeks, already done a trail, all in 2wd, nothing too hard yet, but love how they respond. Supposed to be snow this weekend here in Idaho, so I'm looking forward to see how well they respond.

Yokohama Geolanders. Put them on this summer. Put 5k on them so far. Look brand new still! Good look to them. Very good performance!

I never looked into those duratracs. they look nice and grat reviews. Sounds like I should get 50,000 miles out of them does that sound in line with other experiences?

I am also considering an Ironman lift kit which paired with these should look and ride great. Thanks

I've never had more than about 33,000 miles out of a tire before they were replaced. I also don't run them until they are bald, but typically until they are in the 4/32" range.

I've heard great things about the Ironman kit. From everything I've read on the Australian forum, they seem to be better than the OME kits.
