How much would I expect to spend having a shop swap out those gears?

About $250-300 per diff. However, if you do both at the same time, could be a bit cheaper.

What size tires you're going with? Any plans on suspension mods?
Let me know if you're going to pull the trigger. Your'e gonna love the power! Off the line is great, towing is effortless, and the truck just crawls over obstacles like butter (if you offroad).

I probably wont go with any bigger tires. Im doing this primarily because I think the gearing is WAY to tall on this vehicle. The towing and overall performance could be so much more in my opinion with adequate gearing. Im glad to hear you confirm the performance gains with your switch. I am going to start looking into the switch seriously now. So essentially I just the need the front and back ring gears correct? It would be nice to find someone with an armada that wanted to do a switch.

Yup, just swap the gears out. Nothing else. It appears that the ECU has programming for both the 2.9 and 3.4 gears so the everything still works, cruise control, ABLS, VDC all good.

I cant wait for this mod. I have been looking for Armada diffs all day onling at work today! I also found out a stock 2008 armada did 0-60 in 6.8 seconds. Thats the same as are pathfinder V8's and almost 1000lb heavier. Just shows you how much gearing matters. Will keep you guys updated on the swap.

Does that include the V6 crowd as well?
I didn't think the diff pumpkins were exactly the same.

The v6 crowd allready the better gear ratio that the v8 is lacking. I cant remember what it is but its around 3.3. They are different differentials alltogether so they are not direct replacements. Probably doable though.

I have been searching high and low for a used ring & pinion set. I cant find anything used. Do you know the names of the salvage yards that had the armadas? I can find a new set for around 1K.

I've used these guys in the past:
http://www.autogator.com/salvagepartsca ... ake=Nissan

I don't see any Armadas in stock as parts cars, but send them a parts request and see what they can find.

You may have to buy the whole pumpkin unforunately. Still cheaper than a new set of R&P. They usually don't tear the R&P out unless it's a highly sought out part like a jeep or 4runner.

Thanks guys. Still cant find sh*t used. I think I am going to just buy a new set for 1K. I plan on keeping this truck for a long time. I am also convinced this gear change will MAKE this SUV what it should be. Gearing is very important.

That's what I did. I bought brand new R&P. Same logic, I'm keeping this truck for a long time and I didn't want any used parts to go with my new ARB locker, especially my truck we less than a year old when I swaped the gears.
