Anyone have 08 and up they did this to?

Postby Spank09PathSE » Fri Mar 09, 2012 11:44 am

Guys,

I also did this bypass but it seems like all on this thread have 05 to 07 Paths. Did they change something in the 08 and up models? I have a 09 Path and saw all the silliness that was being caused with this issue so I did the bypass on it.

Same 2 lines on the bottom as all you are talking about... just tied them together.

Thoughts?

Chris

Spank09PathSE,
Yes, 08 and up have a different set up, but the idea is the same. What did you und-up doing on yours - just disconnected the tubes from the bottom of the radiator and connected them together?

slavabon,

Yeah, just took the two off of the bottom of the rad and connected together.

Did this bypass today and it was easy! Felt a big burden off my shoulders now.
And it did take longer to pull the shield off then it did the actual hose swap.
bellwilliam wrote:just did the bypass. easier done than describing it. but I did not use any additional parts. no coupler, no hose clamp (reuse original), no zip tie.

you have 2 hoses -
hose A - from external transmission cooler to radiator (passenger side)
hose B - from radiator (driver side) to engine block.

take hose A off radiator (passenger side) and plug into engine block
take hose B off engine block and plug into radiator (passenger side), forming a loop within.

reuse all the old hose and clamp. length is perfect.

What size barb connector did you use to connect the hoses?

I stopped by the dealer today for a quickie oil change & had them also double check my transmission fluid. They are very aware of the rad/contamination issue and even have a new service item one can purchase that will bypass the rad with an additional external cooler. I think the price on it is around $300. I'll have to check my paperwork, but I believe it was printed on my service receipt.

I also asked my service guy how many rad failures they've seen & mentioned about 40. Out of the 40, a handful were outside the extended warranty & elected to do a transmission flush. He said there were a number of people out of those 40 who had to get their transmissions worked on in addition to the rad replacement.

Also had a long conversation with another Pathfinder owner who was waiting with me about the rad problem, discussion about the tire sizes and why his speedo isn't 100% accurate, etc. I gave him the address to thenissanpath, so maybe we'll have a new member.

We do, on the front of the rad. This would add a 2nd as a replacement for the cooling of the fluid through the bottom of the rad.

where would they install it?
in front of the existing cooler? behind it? next to?
NVSteve, where is the power steering cooler mounted on your '07?
mine (2005's) are in front of the main radiator on the left (driver) side which prevents installing an additional trans cooler there :(

That I don't know. I didn't think to ask, probably because I was still in a state of shock that they even offered this service item. I'd also like to know what kind of cooler they are using. Is it a Nissan part or aftermarket?

I also assume that there must be some kind of Nissan tech document on the procedure, parts involved, etc. From my conversation with the guys in the service department, this service item/procedure is straight from Nissan.

No idea. Wait, I believe I have a photo with the grill removed:

Looks like the powersteering cooler is the small cooler infront of the radiator on the driver side as well.

thanks NVSteve
your PS cooler is in the same place as mine, that is, just about right smack in the middle of the left side
not having flexible hoses to & from makes it difficult to relocate
i think later models have them in a different location
i'd like to know what you find out about the recommended second cooler installation
seems like if it is a Nissan approved or designed setup, we would have known about it by now
if it is an aftermarket set-up it would surprise me that a dealership would install it
location is another thing i'm very curious about
seems that in front of or behind the existing external cooler would cause a decrease in air flow and radiant cooling from not only both of them but the main radiator as well
without the power steering cooler in the way, it could go on the left side in front of the main radiator, but then air flow would be reduced there also
please let us know what you find out

no dip stick ?!

Postby mtbpath » Thu Mar 15, 2012 6:26 pm

since there is no transmission dip stick provided, how does one go about checking the fluid without taking it to dealer?
how much does it cost?
thanks.
