05 Pathfinder 105,000 mile service ?

Postby Mark21 » Mon Mar 12, 2012 6:22 am

I have an Appointment at local Nissan dealer for 105,000 mile service. They quoted me around 550.00 including oil change. I will probably get flamed on for this, but I have no mechanical ability at all and am curious if this is a good price. I had a local shop do bypass for me at around 85,000 miles, but am not sure I would go back to him unless above charge is extreme.

I have never owned a vehicle over 100,000 miles, but we have loved our Pathfinder since we bought it new and brought our newborn home days later in it. Thanks to everyone who has posted in the past 6 years keeping me updated.

Spark plugs for sure. Probably oil and coolant changes, transmission fluid flush, air filter. Possible some other fluid changes (differentials, power steering, and brake fluid). I'm just going from memory. I'd say most of that price you were quoted is labor.

This is what we discussed:
Spark plugs for sure. Probably oil and coolant changes, transmission fluid flush, air filter. He also mentioned in cab filters and overall inspection of vehicle, brakes etc...

whatever you do don't pay more than $20 for the in cabin air filter. My sister has a honda, she took it in for regular service and they replaced her in cabin air filter for around $85. On the next scheduled service I went with her and the guy said "We gotta replace the air conditioner filter". I said "The in cabin air filter" he says "yes" and I says "No!".
Moral of the story you can buy the in cabin air filter at you local auto zone or whatever for $20 or less and it takes all of 30 seconds to change it. I could have my 5 year old do it if I wanted, thats how easy it is. SO when they tell you "It's gonna be $80" or $100 or whatever don't fall for it. The rest I can't really help with, I do all my own maintenance so I don't know if that is a good price or not. I do know that nissan fluids are quite pricey but you can't skimp on those.

Thanks for the help on the filters. I just got done watching a video on replacing them and if behind the glove box is the only spot, I am going to do that one myself or have my 6 yr old try it lol :D

If you haven't had your transmission serviced at regular intervals, I would be really hesitant about having it power flushed now as it may dislodge buildup and then cause you to have problems.

Just from some opinions I have seen on this forum.

I changed my engine oil and filter, Drain and fill on the transmission ATF (4 qts), changed fluid in the transfer case, changed oil in the front and rear differentials, Changed plugs, replaced the drive belt and auto tensioner all in less than 3 hours. Used Nissan OEM parts and recommended fluids and oils with a total of around $225. All of the work can be done fairly easily and will probably be more than what Nissan will do for the $550. Wish you were closer, I would be happy to help you.

Well, just got the Pathfinder back and all went o.k. He called me halfway through to break the news to me that a bypass had been done from what they saw. He said they could undo it no problem. I then explained that I had it done because of their crappy engineering and not to touch it. He understood me loud and clear I think. It came in just under 500.00 and feel i did my part to help the local economy by paying for all the labor charges. I need to get off my arse and get more hands on. Thanks to all who responded above. Great community in here!

Replace plugs, oil, coolant and transmission flush (crossing my fingers on this) They looked at the fluid and then determined it was dark and overall no warning signs of problems. Did overall inspection including brakes etc..(105,000 mile checklist)

just curious - how many quarts of transmission fluid did they bill you for?

AFAIK it should be 4 quarts of ATF
