High Mount Stop Lamp - LED Strip?

Postby Spinal Tap » Thu May 03, 2012 11:22 am

I'm new to the forum and own a '95 SE model. Has anyone had any difficulty with the third brake light? Mine is not working and I was surprised to find an LED strip when I opened the assembly. Apparently, some or all 94-95 models have LED strips instead of bulbs. According to my local dealer, the LED strip is not available from Nissan and if it was, would run around $400. AutoZone doesn't carry it, either. Anyone had this problem and found a solution? Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

It's available, but it is expensive. They are sold by color code and you can get them for around $300 online. See link:

There's also a company that makes replacement bulbs and it's a much cheaper option, but I've never used them personally. Here's their link:

Of course, the other option is a used unit. You might try your local salvage yard or Ebay. But first, I would make sure there's power and ground to the lamp before assuming it's bad.
