Jersey Newb!!!

Postby To0lB@G » Tue Mar 18, 2008 7:11 pm

Just wanted to say hello to everyone here. I searched around for a few days trying to find a kickass forum for the Pathfinder and this is by far the best I have seen. I just purchased a Storm Gray 06 Pathfinder SE from Flemington car and truck country on 3/7/08 and had a pleasant experience with them.
I already made some small additions to the truck with in-channel rainguards, and I am recieving my Garmin Nuvi 660 tomorrow. I also have been checking on that OME suspension, and possibly some exhaust.

I'd like to see where you mount the Garmin.. I've got my 760 all the way to the left now.. Not sure if I'm satisfied.. I hate the cables..

Thanks Greybrick, I mounted it on the windshield right above the nice little tray in the center of the dash, but I think I am going to see if I can pick up one of those dash mounts ans see if it fits in that tray. These things are the new hot stolen items and I rather not have to constantly take the windshield mount on/off everytime I go somewhere.

I picked up that bean bag mount for the garmin and I like it much better. It fits in that tray on the dash pretty good. I will try and get some pics up for ya guys later.

I'd be perfectly satisfied if I could hide the wires completely. But that means popping the dash, something I've never done before on any car.

Awaiting pictures :)

get pics tomorrow for ya guys. What is nice I can just take the whole bean bag and GPS and put it right in my center console without unplugging the wire but as you said I would like to find a way to hide the wire.

Looks like an okay setup, with no trace when removed..

My tray on top of the stereo actually has a lid. So it won't fit :(

that garmin beanbag mount is quite handy. My last car (an 04 honda accord) fell victim to a shattered driver side window. I had left the window mount attached to the windshield, went into the house, came back out and crack-a-lacka. window all over the place. The beanbag is much more convenient. Can just toss it right up on the dashboard. No muss, no fuss.
I have an 08 pathfinder and my parking brake is of the step variety.

Most pieces of the dash just unsnap; if there's any screws, they are usually obvious. I've taken mine apart a few times to route wires for the trailer brake controller, CB, radar detector and, soon, GPS. I'll try to post some pictures later today.

For '07-up Pathfinders, (possibly earlier), you can buy an OEM kit from Nissan that will hold a Garmin 700-series GPS and replaces the dash tray/cover. The GPS snaps into a built-in holder, which is wired directly to the radio wiring harness for power, and there's a lid so the hole thing closes and hides your GPS from sight.

I just picked-up a Garmin 760 yesterday from Best Buy for $349, and ordered the Portable Nav Holder, part number 999q5-ku001, from a local Nissan dealer for $110. Again, I'll post pictures, or you can look at a similar install documented here: http://www.thenewx.org/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=8061
