ARB Air-Lockers

Postby Touchdown » Mon Dec 17, 2012 4:44 pm

So I'd like to get on record which ARB Air-Lockers some of the board members are using and input as to what will fit the USA R51 platform.

From what I can tell they make 2 that are for the front:
RD180 (27 spline 3.69 & up)
RD181 (27 spline 3.54 & down)
I'm assuming one would fit the V6 and the other the V8...not sure which is which though.

And possibly for the rear:
RD137 (33 spline 3.54 & up)

OK so after poking around some more I found this on the ARB site:

http://www.arb.com.au/media/products/ai ... _chart.pdf

Looks like the V6 crowd has the lower 3.3 front diff ratio and would use the RD181. The RD137, according to the chart, is for the rear.

From what I recall from rragpaoa's thread is that the V8 has the M205 up front, and the R230 in the rear, both of which aren't "fully" supported by ARB.

A locker for the M205 (V8 front) was to come out last year, doesn't look like it has, so we can have hope for 2013.

As for the R230(V8 rear), the ring gear needs to be ground down equally on US models since the offset is incorrect and designed for 3.54 gearing, this is the RD137 model locker. US models have 2.94 or, as you and rragpaoa have, 3.36's from the QX(all) or the Titan/Armada(tow package).

Where on the disclaimer it reads "2
RD137 does not suit ratio up to 3.36:1 due to RG offset."

Apparently it's a fairly common practice, but the local guys I deal with weren't willing to do it.

Good info!

I know there are a few R51 owners on here that have lockers on the rear.
Would definitely like to hear from them on their setup.

Maybe an M205 swap is in order!

Looks as if we're SOL, at least the V8 guys.

ARB does have one available for the R180 (V6 front), so, that's good.
But here's the response for the M205 front.

I asked ARB about making a locker for the M205.

Here's the response.

Hi there

I regret we have had no plans on building a locker for the m205, the tooling costs are very expensive and we just do not have enough enquiry to make a good business case.

Very sorry

UPDATE:

Looks like they're once again gaining interest.

IIRC, they/He was looking for 50 people committed.

IMO, that's an easy task considering all 05+ Nissan 4x4's can use it. Since this was the Aussie engineering team, let's just hope they make one to accommodate our gear ratios without modification. (3.54 and down).

The Nissan Titan front (M205) ARB Air Locker project is on it's way! Huge thanks to everyone that has put in their deposit to make this happen. Expected delivery is the end of November 2013. ARB will be making a run of 50 lockers and over 30 are spoken for, If you want to ensure that you get one of these lockers and you haven't put your deposit in yet, you may do so as long as the following link is still active: https://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/nissan-t ... 57977.html

In the mean time I'll be working on some other new products, so keep your eyes peeled on the Blog, on facebook and in e-mail updates that you can sign up for at: https://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/newsletter.php

Sounds great! Hopefully I don't get into too much trouble from now until then.

.... Can anyone else chime in on who put in a deposit from here? I'd imagine the population who did so would be VERY slim, considering only the V8's had the M205, and that in and of itself is a small number.

Couple that with the fact that V6 models already have an option available from ARB.

I thought the audience here would be pretty slim which is why I wasn't making all the big announcements here. I didn't want clutter up the board with a dead topic.

but figured i'd at least add to this thread. But atleast you guys know it's a coming option.

Let me know if you guys have any questions.

just a quick update, the Nissan front (M205) ARB air locker project is well under way now! Rugged Rocks is the exclusive ARB dealer for this locker which now has a part number of RD224. Time wise, ARB is making good progress and things are moving along right on track for landing here in the U.S. in Late November 2013. The majority of these lockers are already spoken for so I strongly recommend that anyone interested in one should at least put a deposit on one here: https://ruggedrocksoffroad.com/nissan-t ... 57977.html or call 909-547-4651

Also, a reminder that the deposit is only $312.25 not the full price of the locker.
