2006 valve cover gaskets

Postby kegomatix » Sat Mar 16, 2013 9:58 am

Hey everyone, I'm going to replace the valve cover gaskets on a 2006 4.0 next weekend for a buddies neighbor. The dealer wanted to charge him $600!!! In almost every vehicle I know this is a real easy job, I'm just wondering if there is anything there that I don't see that could complicate it. One thing I noticed just from looking at it is if the upper intake manifold needs to be removed to get the passenger side valve cover off? Thanks in advance.

Yes, the upper plenum needs to be removed to get the right side valve cover off. It's not too bad of a job. You'll also need to remove the coil packs. It's a good time to replace the spark plugs if they're anywhere near due.
