I'll be doing this soon. You can hear the tensioner rattling. I know it's the tensioner because I've watched it to find the point of noise. I assume the tensioner isn't that bad to replace? I'm not worried about the belt job, that's cake.

Once the belt is off, the tensioner is easy as well, just have to have the space for a breaker bar (well, i did).

Nissan has an improved tensioner, so might want to see the dealer for one.

The aftermarket has made available the improved tensioner and belt set. Some refer to it as the serpentine belt enhancement kit. Just go to Rockauto.com and it'll list the TSB # in the info. Or, go with the tensioner AND belt listed in the TSB if you want genuine Nissan parts. The new belt is a little shorter.

I replaced my belt and tensioner this weekend. Pretty easy to do and only cost about $60 getting the parts through the dealer. Only hard part was that my socket wrench would not fit on the bolt for the tensioner due to the fan in the way. Had to use a normal open end wrench, 14 mm I think is what it took.

Okay guys, I just replaced my belt, no big deal, took about half an hour. I was a little paranoid so I took off the negative cable from the battery while I did the job. I just hooked everything back up and started the truck.

Runs fine, but not only do I have to reprogram my aftermarket stereo, but now my VDC and SLIP lights are on. Why would this be?

I am going to take her for a drive now and see if that resets something. Maybe I need to do a 100 mile cycle?

What do you guys think?

The lights should go out after a few miles, and/or 3 start stop cycles.

Yup, both of those light have always come on for me too. A short drive around the block is usually all it takes for them to turn off.

SLIP went off before I even got out of my driveway, VDC went off after about 100 feet.

The lights may be on because you lost the steering wheel position sensor memory when you disconnected the battery cable; there was a TSB on the issue, but you'll need to have the stored code retrieved to be sure, which requires a scantool that can access the ABS system. If the code is set for the steering wheel position sensor, then the steering position will need to be re-learned.

Im having the noise problem with my 2005 and I cant tell what is pulley is making it. I have had the truck for 5 years and in that time it has had 4 belts and 2 tensioners. It feels like every winter and when it rains the noise starts. Now its to the point that the noise doesn't stop with the truck warms up. Anyone think it would be the idler pulley that could be making the noise? I have no problem replacing any of it just not in the mood to replace anything I don't have too.

I pulled the idler pulley last night and it had lots of dirt and build up on it so I cleaned it up and put it back on and the noise was a lot less but was still there. Im at a loss right now and its driving me crazy.

Check the alignment of the belt at the P/S pump. On the same bulletin that refers to the countermeasure auto tensioner and belt, it also states to check the belt alignment and adjust the P/S pump bracket as necessary. The TSB was #NTB06-072B.
