How many times have you replaced the windshield?

Postby NVSteve » Fri Mar 22, 2013 8:22 am

Just curious. I was driving into work today and a crack started about 4" up from the bottom passenger edge of the windshield. I watched as it quickly reached across to the other side. This will be #3 for me.

I'm on #4 in 90k miles. always major rock impacts that cause the problem...usually right in my line of vision for some damn reason! I work in mining areas though so I'm constanting passing big trucks and such. par for the course. I don't think the windshield has sealed properly since the OEM came out...I get a ton of wind noise.

I guess I have been lucky, still have my original windshield after 50000kms or 31000 miles. I too drive a lot of mining roads with more trips planned in April. Maybe I just jinxed myself but hopefully my lightning fast reflexes will continue to help me avoid the stones. :D

I'm on number two. Replaced it Nov 2012 when I was in Utah for Thanksgiving. Went into a store and everything was fine. Came back out, and there was a crack starting on the driver side stretching all the way across towards the passenger side. It was in the teens and below zero I think at that time in Utah. Dang cold.

I've replaced it once but currently have a crack all the way across.

Haven't had to replace the one on my 05 yet, but a crack started on the driver's side about 1/2 way up, and it needs to be done now.

In regards to the replacement, are there better quality replacements out there? Can you specify? What are peoples' experience?

Wow...what are all of you doing? I've never cracked a windshield. Killed a deer with my bumper, but never harmed a windshield :D

Winter driving and Rocks and sand put down for traction I think is what cracked mine.

I drive into mines....and pass trucks that are hauling stone/gravel/coal all the time. I'm on my 4th fog light as well....but surprisingly very few stone chips in the paint.

I don't think there's any difference in windshields. Only a couple companies out there manufacturing them for the distributors.

Mine got chipped on the way home from the dealer the day we bought it. Literally less than 30 minutes after we signed the papers, got a BB-sized chip about 1/2 way up the driver's side. I've been hoping ever since that it would crack so I could get a new windshield, but it's been almost three years now and while there are lots of little chips (the windshield seems "soft" compared to all our others) none have developed into cracks, even with regular -20F in the winters here.

I've noticed the same now that I went back and looked. I don't have significant chips, but what I thought was tiny things stuck to the glass are actually tiny chips. It's only noticeable if I look, but it's aggravating that it's there.

How much is a replacement windshield anyway?

I believe my shop told me mine would be $150 without insurance.
