Undo the radiator bypass

Postby grm3 » Mon Dec 09, 2013 8:23 am

When re-connecting the ATF lines to the radiator to undo the bypass, is there anything special that would need to be done (i.e. to account for empty cooler & hoses) besides just connecting the hoses?

just double check and adjust trans fluid level as necessary (if necessary)

I agree, run it a few mins. Then check fluid level. I did mine in a way I could reverse it easily if I needed to bring it to dealer for warranty work without evidence it was bypassed.

Thanks BigEz. After reading your post that you linked, I think I may leave it bypassed.
I just had the original radiator replaced because it was leaking (not the cooler), and I thought it would be better to include the new in-radiator cooler. However, if it appears that the ATF runs cooler with the bypass, and the only benefit being the warming aspect, then I may be better off leaving it bypassed.

It will run cooler with the bypass. ATF is supposed to run in the 175-200F range, which is what it will be if you run it through the integral cooler. Most people report that there trans fluid runs around 150 degrees with the radiator cooler bypassed.
