SOLD: bilstein 5100 height adj front struts + oem coils

Postby doctahjones » Fri Dec 13, 2013 3:24 pm

thought i had a problem with my bilsteins, but seems like it's something else. I was getting a noise from the passenger side front wheel well, and it sounded like the strut was going out. so i replaced these with the rancho quicklift coil overs, and the sound is still there (so obviously it wasn't the bilsteins)!

the struts and coils are already together, so you don't have to get a spring compressor unless you're wanting to change the height. currently the struts are set to 1.5in of lift, and you can go as high as 2in. originally installed around 4/15/12

$125 + actual shipping for (2) bilstein 5100 height adj struts and (2) OEM coils from a v8 pathy.

you can calc shipping yourself:
2 packages, 20x6x6 and 18lbs each, shipping from 80126.

as an example shipping from 80126 to 75243 (Dallas) UPS ground shows $47.22.

Hey Doc!
I'm interested, but I have the V6, which should be the same setup I think?
Only thing I can think of would be a higher OEM spring rate because of the V8 being a bit heaver.

yeah from what i know the mounting and all is the same, but imo i think the spring has got to be a heavier spring due to the increased weight of the v8. i don't have any numbers to back that up, but it just seems like common sense when you're adding 2-300lbs in the front...

i -might- also have a way to get these to the Dallas/Allen area for free, but they wouldn't get there until sometime after the 5th. some friends of friends are coming from dallas the week of 2/2, but i don't know if they're driving or flying yet, or if they might help me out :)

Yeah I think that'll work out well, because I am planning on putting on a hidden winch in the front. Plus I noticed a small drop in ride height after installing the heavy skid plates.

I'm in no hurry. So do you want me to pay for them now and we'll just wait to see what your friends wanna do or just wait?

you're good, you're #1 in line. i should find out in a few hours if they're driving or flying, and we'll go from there. no $ needed just yet.

The V8 and V6 have the same OEM shocks/springs. I'd be surprised if there's more than a 50-100# difference between the two engines. Not enough for a different suspension.

I couldn't find an application of these shocks anywhere posted by Bilstein. I realize you have them and they work but I was snooping around. How easy is it to roll these back to 0" lift? Do you have to compress the springs to do that?

*shrug*. v6 LE 2wd is listed as 4678lbs and v8 le 2wd is listed as 4866lbs according to edmunds. and on a side note the v6 4wd is listed as 4934, and the v8 4wd is a whopping 5107! she's a heavy b***h.

and you'd have to have a spring compressor or take it to a shop and have them do it. i tried the spring compressor myself when i first put them in, but there was no way in hell the 'clamp' part would fit through the spring, even when it was stock. maybe there's different compressors that use different types of holding mechnaisms, but the one i rented from auto zone wouldn't work. i ended up taking it to NTB and paid i think $25 each to have them swap out the struts?

but once you do have the spring off it's just a metal C type ring that fits into grooves on the strut itself, and that's relatively easy to change.

Skinny...Just installed these 2 weeks ago. Yes, compress spring, remove shock completely, lower clip. When assembling back MAKE SURE the spring seat goes back in the correct way. Learned that one the hard way...

I recall trying to justify the weight difference in the specs when this was discussed before. The 180# or so difference to me points that there are more differences between V6 and V8 than what seems to have been found. The rear-end is about all that was ever known for sure to be different though. That's just such a huge weight difference for an engine. I mean we're talking a typical engine is 400-500lb so to add 180# would be nuts. I'd believe it if it was an aluminum V6 to an iron block V8.

Looks like you have a buyer lined up anyway. Let me know if it falls through. I don't need the adjustable part but the price is right and it would make installation a breeze.

The suspension could be verified by part number.
Otherwise, the V8/V6 trucks are identical except for a bigger displacement engine and gearing. I do see docs point, where else would the majority of the weight come from, if not the engine?
