PF folding side mirrors

Postby Gray » Sat Jun 14, 2008 3:35 am

Just wondering if any have looked at installing folding side mirrors and what that might imply.

Somewhere I read that the Euro PF's came with that option.

Flip a switch and they fold in.
They do not automatically fold in when turning off the ignition. (which would be the way I'd want them to work)

Yeah, I've always wondered the same about vehicle folding mirrors...they might serve some purpose going through an automated car wash maybe.

Or if your garage space was really tight, like mine, they'd be nice.

back when i actually cared about my cavalier (yeah dont laugh), i found that there was a japanese model cavalier released under the toyota badge (). it had a few things different than the chevy.

anyway, the point is, this car had powered folding mirrors. i was told, the reason was because of the narrow roadways and such that sometimes required the owners to pull their mirrors so they wouldnt hit anything. it seems pretty extreme that you would have to pull your mirrors in to drive down a street, but then again, some of the city roads in europe (dont know about japan, etc) are extremely tight and may warrant pulling in your mirrors.

then again, my PF came with manual folding mirrors... just reach over and pull them in if you really want to make your truck skinny. personally, i like them for parking in crowded lots... i pull them in so people dont run into them when they are walking between cars.

You are completely correct. It may not be the only reason but every time I was in japan there were instances that myself and the other car would have to reach out and fold in the mirrors to ensure we could pass. It also helps, as you said, to fold them in when parked so people don't bang into them and just when parking in general.

Here in Philly the streets are pretty narrow and on most streets, anyone with folding mirrors folds them in. I've seen countless cars with missing (broken off) or hanging side mirrors because another car has banged into it.

You would think it would be standard on all LE's. It would definitely be helpful when pulling into my garage to do work on it.

Actually, it's not a block heater. It's a switch that ups the rpm when idle. (For starting the engine and make it go with 1250rpm until it gets warm).
Only works when in Neutral or Park.

That is even more interesting. If I had artistic skills to remove the engine image I'd get one of those for a side project.

As the engine graphic on the switch appears to be a thin sprayed on coating like from an ink-jet printer, I'd masking off everything except the image and remove it with some fine sand paper or steel wool. I've done that on other plastic switches with good result.
