Drivers side power window issue

Hey all,

We have an issue with the drivers side window in our 08 PF. Basically it goes up and down when it feels like it. There are times it works, but more often than not it won't go either up or down. All of the other windows work fine. The switch is rather expensive.

I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

My drivers switch for the passenger window has been iffy on and off lately. The auto-up won't always work, but if you hold the switch up without locking, it works. Down is fine. It would be a hassle if the drivers window quit because you don't have a switch on the door....I'd probably get that fixed! I'm thinking the switches were available for around $100 online.

My mechanic quoted me around $250 for the switch. I could call the dealer to verify.

Probably about right for a dealer. Courtesy Nissan shows $215. Reputable options on Ebay/Amazon look to be around $100 or so.

Thanks for the tip on Ebay, I'll take a look when I get home. Any tips for removing the door panel? I did a basic Google of it and it seems pretty straightforward.

the door panel does not have to be removed, just the armrest & switch assy

That's good to know. The google video showed the armrest being lightly pried upwards with a none damaging plastic tool.

I've also head that maybe there might be a corroded connection somewhere.

Very likely or just a worn contact. I haven't taken it apart but based on the pictures it doesn't look very serviceable.

I just removed it and cleaned it with electrical contact cleaner. Just the switch assembly comes out. You do not have to remove the door panel. There's a plastic hook at the top of the assembly so you have to gently pry with something from the bottom. then the unit pops out. Release the two electrical connectors and you have the unit on your workbench. It's a circuit board for all of the switches in that unit. So basically I shot some electrical cleaner in there twice and and moved the switch back and forth. Then I dried it with some compressed air.

I re-installed it and it works. Only time will tell if that works because it did work sometimes.

The master window switch is known to go bad and replacement is going to be your best bet. It's expensive but a breeze to pop in.

I cleaned mine a few times and it only lasted a couple of days before it started going wonky again.

Yeah that was my expectation. I did find some for sale online much cheaper than the dealer price. I just need to look closely to make sure they aren't bargain garbage coming from Asia.

Several days later and it is still working. I'll keep this thread updated concerning how long it continues to work.
