99 to 01 rear bumper swap

Postby happickinator » Wed Jun 04, 2014 9:25 am

Hey there, new to the forum here. I just have one quick question. I have an 01 LE 3.5 and got rear ended the other day. I have a lead on a 99 patchy in a nearby salvage yard. I just need confirmation that the rear bumper and bumper cover will indeed swap over and bolt directly on to my 01. I believe it will but have looked all over online and can't find a definitive answer. Don't want to spend time and money getting the new bumper just to have it not fit.

Also, will this bumper swap need any special tools or anything like that? I plan on doing it in my driveway with screwdrivers and sockets. Thanks for any info!

Also, is this a one man job or should I have a buddy to help out?

If you have the tools, it's a one-man job, but it'll be easier with help. One thing about the 99 models is that there is a mid year split that starts at -350001 on the last six of the VIN #. The 99-1/2 models had some changes to the body, like the grill and bumpers. You may want to go to a site like NissanPartsZone.com and compare part #'s between the models for your parts after finding out whether you have a 99 or 99-1/2 model parts truck.

Okay awesome thank you, I will try to get that info. So you're saying if it is a pre-mid year split 99 (one of the first year VIN's) it should be identical, but may not be if it is in the latter half of the split, right? I will still try to get verification via part numbers but just trying to make sure I understand.

And you say if I have the tools... are any tools needed other than various screwdrivers/sockets?
Again, thank you.

I would say that if either of the bumper covers will work, it would be the one from the 99-1/2.
