How do I remove the plastic grille?

Postby OurPathfinder » Sat Feb 07, 2009 7:51 pm

I'm sure there is a manual somewhere that shows really tiny little pictures of how to remove the stock pathfinder grille...

So is it just held in by plastic tabs? Or are there screws involved? Is this easy to do, or difficult? Thanks in advance!

This should answer your question. I've never done it personally, but others on the forum have and may offer some tips.

Thank you Stevie! Much appreciated! Makes it easier for me to get behind the grille and add the stone guards for the radiator, transmission cooler, and mount the light bar for the driving lights. :)

when you reinstall, be sure to insert the side clips (#1 in the diagram) into the grill first. the place the grill back in the orginal location and pop those clips back into the mounting holes.

For later model Pathfinders the bottom two clips were replaced with 4 clips which simply need releasing by hand. they are spaced equally along the bottom of the grill and are released from the underside by pressing upwards on the tab.

Not sure when this changed, I guess with the new headlights. Definately this way on my 2013 R51.

What is the best way to twist those clips do we do it from the front or the back, do we use a needle nose pliers or something else?

They install from the back. I use my fingers. Spread the legs of the clips outward and push the square head of the clip through the grille and rotate 90 degrees. Squeeze together the legs of the clip until they snap into place.

So these clips are really making me mad, I cant even get to the bottom clips there has to be an easier way of getting them out. I can twist them from the front with needle nose pliars but i'm not getting anywhere. Does anyone have any photos to help guide me?

Soo figured out an easier way to take the front grille off, take a screwdriver between the square pegs and twist, that will pop the clips rather than doing it from the back. Then to put the grille back on, pop the clips out then put them back in the grill and pop the grill back into place. sooo much easier.
