R51 Engine questions

Postby dawgn86 » Fri Jul 11, 2014 7:45 am

Hey guys

Gonna ask two questions if I can:

my 2006 PF / V6 / auto / 2wd / 125k miles has a noise while driving and accelerating I cant figure out...it sounds like an electrical whirring noise, increases with RPMS and decreases with RPMS as well..hard to pinpoint where its coming from, but somewhere fromthe engine. All fluids are fine..did the tranny bypass 2 years ago. Any suggestions?

Second question: my son has an 08 Nissan Frontier pickup truck with same V6 engine / 57k miles on it. Should I do the tranny bypass? Before he goes off to college next month I want to replace the diff fluid and do a tranny drain and fill and was wondering if I should go ahead and do the bypass?

Thanks

Eek. Sound like timing chain from your description.

Yes do the bypass.

If it's the timing chain... EEK  is an understatement! It's a really expensive repair when done by the dealer (~$2500) in my case...

There are YouTube vids that you can listen to. Just do a search for Nissan VQ engine whine. To me, they always sounded like a bad P/S pump sorta noise.

Shortly after I bought mine at 65K, I noticed some noise. I changed the oil the dealer had done & added MotorKote. Still quiet at 98K.

No need to wait. Add 8-10 oz. Best anti-friction stuff I have come across.
I think my noise was from the infamous chain guides.

Wall Mart sells it in the automotive section. Let us know how it works out.
