R51Trans and cold?

Postby Kestral » Sat Nov 01, 2014 8:29 am

I was wondering if the R51 transmission in cold weather will not shift into top gear when it's real cold? Today I drove off with not much warm up on my 2012 Pathy V6 and it did not seem to want to shift out to top gear for around two miles of driving and it was about 39 degrees (F) at the time. My 2006 Toyota 4Runner would do the same thing but it had to be much colder out for it to not shift to top gear before warm up. Do others find this with there Pathfinder?

Yeah pretty normal on all cars these days. It's designed to help warm the engine quicker to assist with reducing emissions and increasing mpg. You should notice the shifts being extended in the lower gears as well.
