2005 hood release busted

Postby disallow » Tue Jan 07, 2014 3:44 pm

Well it has been bloody cold here of late. Today it actually warmed up a bit. I decided to go to Costco and get a warranty battery as mine has been having issues in the cold.

Got to Costco, pulled the hood release, and it broke at the plastic pull handle. I can see the cable dangling there, buy I'm assuming that if it broke the plastic pull handle it just be pretty frozen, and I'm looking for a car wash or something to warm the beast up in for a bit before I go nuts trying to yank on what's left of the release.

Any bright ideas out there? Damn cold weather!

Ok so I've doused the latch in wd 40, And gently pulled on the cable And the hood popped.

Now I need to fix the release inside the truck. Any idea if just the handle can be changed or if it needs to be the whole cable assy?

This happened to me on an old Honda, and I just bought a small set of vise grips and used that to pull on the cable.

However, Terry I don't think you want that ghetto look in your nice pathfinder. I'd hit up your local Nissan dealer and see if they sell just the handle or what would be required to fix it and then try and find the parts at an online store that might be less expensive than your dealership.

Ouch. Is there a salvage yard near by that you might be able to take the handle from? I would assume the entire cable might be a PITA to remove and replace.

Fortunately, the assembly can be had for $30 + shipping.

I was expecting a higher price. $30 is not bad. However, it's not really a common part that breaks that I'm aware of.

Sorry to hijack post volvite but messaging seems to be down

hey I tried to message back Volvite but it seems to be hung up in my outbox since yesterday (1/9/14).

That sounds good with the CAI, sorry the Bullydog didn't work out but I will have it for a while if you change your mind. Hopefully messaging will be back up by the time you get this. Thanks, Wayne (thegovernor)

I have a somewhat different problem with my 2005. I pull on the hood release handle and the hood latch clicks, but the hood won't pop up. I have to go out and lift it up with my fingers to its normal "popped" height, and then I can reach in and unlatch and raise it normally. It does stay up at its popped height after I lift it. I tried lubricating the mechanism, but it doesn't seem to make any difference.
