My '97 Pathfinder always starts on the first try; its never given me any trouble. BUT lately with the cold weather if i make a short trip to the grocery store and the engine hasn't warmed up when i try to head back home it wont start again. i'll have to wait between 5 - 10 mins, try again and then it will start up. Engine is turning over trying to start. Any ideas what it might be?
Update: Also the engine temperature gauge goes up and down every so often.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Engine wont start sporadically
