What type of 4x4 offroading use?

Postby Gray » Fri Apr 11, 2008 12:41 pm

Just wondering what sort of driving conditions PF 4x4 owners are getting their trucks for. 8)

Purely for the winter snow & all my travels to neat places during the rest of the year-places that typically require a 4x4 to get to.

We've only had it a few months so we haven't made any good off road trips yet. We have packed dirt fire roads here of various difficulty with a lot of rocks. It'll see quite a bit of beach sand and some ski trips at some point.

I've taken it off-road just to see what it could do and it did much better than I thought. With the 4 wheel independent suspension, there isn't a lot of articulation. However, when it lifts a tire off the ground, the electric limited slip(I forget the acronym) does its job and pulls it right through.

I dont have plains to take my PF off road. I sold my lifted 4x4 trail truck for a PF so I got my 4x4 out of me with that.

We use ATV's for off roading. The PF just takes us to our favorite off roading adventures. Like others, it's too expensive to take serious off roading. We purchased our PF mostly because of the 7 passenger seating, and it's easy for my wife to drive.

I don't take mine into anything serious, it's too nice to mess up. I have a couple of ATV's and an old Bronco for anything more serious. But once in a while it gets a little muddy playing around.

Before Pathie was an Xterra, honestly the only offroading I do is towing my ATVs to riding areas... OH, OFFROAD??? how about the UPPER LEVEL parking lot of the Short Hills Mall ?? :P

Taken the Pathy on various mountain/river trails - performed beyond expectations.
Desert trips were limited by low ground clearance, but power was exceptional.

Had a lifted 4WD Explorer before the PF and I used to regularly visit the beaches with it. So I was a bit worried taking the PF out for the first time. Man the Pathy handled like a dream! I was very suprised how well it cut through the deep groves on the beach with no effort what-so-ever. One thing I did learn the hard was was when you use 4-Hi, turn the VDC off! It made some interesting noises until I figured out that it needs to be turned off while in 4WD...

I only have it for the snow and ice, and for the once in a while that I go up to some off road trails.

I bought mine mainly for snow use. I work in retail auto parts, and we are open rain, shine, or blizzard.
