Yeah, I've been happy with the 200's.

Thanks to all for this thread. I found it when searching for ways to solve the SLAM when closing. I had a 2006 Pathfinder that never slammed and the slam on my 2010 was the first thing I noticed as a big change.

Can anyone figure out what they did on the 2006 that could be applied to the later models to solve this?

2008 and later models had an automatic latching feature for the rear hatch that the earlier models didn't.

Rear Liftgate, Rear Glass Replacements

Postby Brmadsenad » Fri Nov 11, 2016 3:36 pm

Went with #225 McMaster springs over a year ago, been very happy. I live at 3,500 feet and enjoy skiing, so I was happy to finder a stronger strut for the lift gate. In the summer, it does have a bit of force, but its been fine.

Ordered #40 springs for the glass today. I see that most use the #30 McMaster springs, so I hope I am not being overly aggressive. I'll let you all know how it turns out.

How did you like the #40? Too much or okay?

I just installed mine. 200 is plenty even in cold weather. Was in upper 30s and still went up powerfully. I think 225 would be too much for me. The 200 pushes the rear lift gate higher than my stock, so no more bumping my head.

I got the 40s for the rear glass, seems too much. I am hoping it will calm down or I might have to order the 30s.

Hardest part for me was getting those metal clips back on. But finally got the hang of it.

The #40 work fine.

It opens quick, but isn't difficult to close. Less is probably fine, but the 40# on the rear glass work just fine.

I have now put the 225/40 combo on both our 2006 and 2010 and love it. I do carry a full first aid kit, roadside kit and flaslight on the rear hatches so there is a bit added weight there to overcome. Best part is the added lingth - anyone over 6' will appreciate it.

The electronic close never worked on our 2010 S. Dealer told me that it didn't come on the base model, but I think it was probably just broken by the PO. We bought it CPO at 2yrs old w/23k.

The lift gate struts require replacement on my 2011. Last replaced them in 2013. Based on the length of this thread OEM parts leave much to be desired. This thread is full of folks switching to McMaster 200# and 225#. Any reports on longevity?

I've had my 200# for about 3 years and they are still working like new, regardless of temperature.

I got the 9416K148 @ 200lbs. These threads are fine and will NOT match the stock ends. So, I also ordered QTY 4 9416K76. 15 minutes and works amazing!

What year is your car? I just put these springs on my 2010 and the threads matched. From reading previous posts I thought all years required new rod ends, but 2010 definitely does not.
But yeah, 225 lbs would be crazy. Even 200 lbs. is borderline hazardous - if you're halfway down and let go the hatch is going to give you an uppercut to the chin.

Mine is LE model year 2010, but build date 9/09.
Cutover must have happened near the calendar year.
