Adding tow package?

Postby mbahr » Mon Feb 10, 2014 2:31 pm

Can you add the Nissan OEM two package to an existing vehicle so that is is integrated into the bumper rather than hanging below the bumper?

The image on the Nissan site suggests this is so... just looking for confirmation.

Also wondering if the package needs additional oil / transmission coolers?

If you don't already have it, the only option is aftermarket

When we were looking for our SL with tow package, dealers who didn't have what we wanted all suggested just having an aftermarket package installed. One even suggested U-Haul!

This suggests that unless the tow package has been pre-installed, there is no OEM part # that you can just slap on. True, there are some shops that do beautiful work so you wouldn't be able to tell, but it's definitely not an "OEM two (sic) package" that the O.P. asked about.

All the 2013-14 Pathfinder models from the SV on up have the capability to tow 5000 lbs without any additional equipment.

2014 Pathy Tow Package

Postby carlero » Mon Oct 05, 2015 9:30 am

I got a 2015 Pathy & notice when I insert the 2" touge into the receiver, there's a lot of movement up & down & side to side. I measure the OD of the tonge it's indeed 2" measure the receiver ID it's 2 1/8 WOW not industry standard. Went back to my Dealer & he was scratching his head. He ordered a tonge for a 2015 Pathy & same thing a lot of slop & movement. So don't feel comfortable using this setup! Who knows what damages & vibrations it may do to the receiver, frame or trailer.

not an issue. My 05 is like this, and hasn't had a problem pulling my 5500lb travel trailer.

yes there is a factory accessory tow package that you can get, it requires removal of the bumper cover (painted part) bolting the hitch assy to the vehicle. and cutting out the opening for the receiver. they also sell a fancy cover that makes it look all smooth around the receiver. the harness 7 pin is also another accessory.

all available through Nissan dealership.
