2008 Pathfinder blackout project

Postby BryanCelyn » Sun Dec 14, 2008 5:02 pm

So far:
- HID headlights
- Window tint
- LED interior accent lights
- Flat black on the chrome grille
- Gloss black on the grille logo, rear logo, and tailgate accent
- Gloss black on the side steps
- Remove lettering on tailgate
- VHT Nightshades on tail lights
- LED license plate lights
- LED rear turn signals

Coming soon:
- Tinted Headlight protection film
- Black powdercoat rims
- LED brake lights, reverse lights, and front indicator lights.

I'll update shortly with photos, and some of the interesting issues I've run into.

The process using VHT Nightshades was VERY easy, but you have to do the prep work right. I followed the instructions here for the actual process. I used a brake caliper clearcoat by duplicolor - I've found that its the easiest to work with and cures very well.

On the chrome, I sanded it hazy, used a liberal dose of duplicolor adhesion promoter, then clear coat. You can lay down enough paint with a rattle can to get a really good gloss on items that size. Anything larger, I'd want to use a spray gun.

That looks great. I especially like the blackout Nissan emblem. Nice touch.

Thanks! I'm really having a good time improving upon my Pathfinder. My last vehicle was an Audi S4, and I didn't do a thing to it, besides window tint. Mainly because if I screwed something up, ordering a replacement part would cost a fortune, and I found it difficult to improve upon the ridiculous level of fit and finish in that car. This is a totally different experience!

Post some more pics. I've been thinking of doing some of the same things and would like to see how it looks on the silver. I think I'm just gonna get all the chrome pieces painted to match the rest of the car.

Yeah, please post some more pics!
Mine's also silver and I'm thinking of having my wheels painted or powdercoated black or greyish/charcoal...those tail lights look awesome!

I've seen some Titans with the headlights partially blacked out on the inside...less chrome! Have you thought about that too?

cheers

Another photo! The headlight tint is from Xpel.com. It was ridiculously easy to put on following their directions. The film is thicker than I expected, and has a 3M adhesive on the back. You can apply it wet using an alcohol/water mixture. Jahblessings: The emblem on the back window is a masonic symbol.

Check out the thread on my grill modification. Think this may work good for the look you seemed to be going for.
