Just a quickie

Postby Graham W » Mon Jul 08, 2019 10:24 am

Got a nice new set of discs and pads for the front.
Put my fingers on the discs the other day and there’s at least a 2mm lip
and they are in need of new pads so thought a job in one.

Just a quickie to ask if the callipers are a twist in or press in?
Uk R51 diesel 2005.....

Cheers in advance

Press in. The only twist in brake pistons are on rear disc brakes that incorporate the parking brake. This is not the case in the rear of the R51 as it uses a "hat style" system where there are parking brake shoes are operated by a cable inside the hub of the rotor (which act as the "drum") and the "regular" hydraulic brakes are disc type.

Well I had the mishap of getting a big nail in the front tyre last fri, so as had to get two new tyres anyhow thought best to do the brakes when swapping o the spare.

Nice and easy job mainly, all bolts undid fairly well, and discs didnt need beating off. Problem encountered was one of the sliders was solid, had a devil of a job pulling it out. It would spin but not come out. finally warming the metalwork up and one of those really p1ssed off pulls 'pop' it was out.
The inner wasnt damaged it was a small amount of rust which had caused a lump stopping it extracting. Mr Dremel tidied that up, polished and greased.

And what a difference to the brakes now all bed in. New tyres too.

Now all i need to do is source a 6 disc PN-2715N EB600 as the internal amp cuts out randomly !!!
